Need a movie title, please

On another forum, a friend is asking for help:

Hi. I’m looking for the title of a movie I saw many years ago. It is black and white. What I remember of it is that Satan or someone really evil comes forward in time to take a woman back with him to be his bride. A man gets hooked up to a time machine of sorts and goes back to rescue her. He succeeds in his rescue, but gets left behind in the past. If I remember correctly, the last shot of the movie is of his empty clothes sitting in the chair. I have faith that the vast knowledge of those here can help. Thanks for your time.

This one has me stumped. Does it ring a bell for anyone?

It’s definitely not what you described, but there’s an episode of The Outer Limits back in 1963 that’s at least thematically close. Have him look at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0667842/.

It’s not exactly what you describe, but there’s a Roger Corman movie that was done on Mystery Science Theater 3000 called The Undead. It deals with reincarnation rather than with time travel per se, but it’s in black and white, there’s a psychic that does hook himself up to a machine to travel back in time, he does meet Satan, he does wind up stranded in the past, and the last shot is the psychic’s empty clothes in a chair.

He doesn’t exactly rescue the girl, so much as persuade her to correct her timeline by dying so that her reincarnation in the present can live.

Other than that, I got nothin’.
