I didn’t realize hardwood should dry two years. This guy said he cut the wood in January. Also, we have had a wet spring and summer and it’s been sitting out, but usually that doesn’t seem to matter much. I put it in the shed for 2-3 months before I need to use the woodstove. Speaking of drying, are you talking about after it’s cut or before? A guy I got it from last year is only now cutting, but I’ve seen the logs on his lot as I drive by. I don’t know if they are dry. I didn’t use him because I was looking to see if I could get it cheaper. But, it doesn’t look like it. He charges $135.00 a cord delivered. I also don’t like it when they say it’s “mixed” wood because some of it’s been “trash” wood in the past. also, the pickup loads are not packed, just tossed in. A standard bed. I think I’m going to go take a look before I buy as suggested. Since I’m in Maine, and “from away” sometimes I think they try to take advantage of me. I don’t have any brothers they went to high school with to kick their ass. On the other hand, its a hardscrabble life up here in Downeast Maine with most people having 2-3 jobs, so that is a factor.
sue, you put a log on the fire & then you watch the tips of it carefully, if its wet wood, water or steam comes out the sides of it. I had a guy actually do that test when I brought him a cord.
