(Mods, wasn’t sure where to put this, please move if necessary? Thanks)
Hi, I have a bit of a problem, not quite sure where to go from here.
I found 2 ID cards from a German citizen, a driver’s license and I believe a medical insurance card.
I’m assuming she was either robbed or pick pocketed, and the jerk who did it threw her cards on the ground and kept the money.
We called the German Consulate, but they’re not open 'til Tuesday.
There’s a German person with her name on TikTok, who’s traveling in America right now. A message was left, but we haven’t heard back yet.
What else can we do to help? I don’t want this person to think I’m a bad guy as well, trying to trick her or something.
NYC has a bad rep already, and it stinks this happened to someone just here to enjoy our city.
Thanks.
Flag down a squad car or contact a police officer. There’s a good chance the person has already filled out a report and it should take all of 10 seconds to connect the two and they can (and should) be the ones to return the docs.
My little corner of Brooklyn is not a place tourists visit. I found the IDs at a bus stop that runs to Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. The crook obviously took the bus from the city, and just dumped everything but the money on the ground when they got off here. My precinct would not handle something as small as this.
I do appreciate the advice, though.
No response from her TikTok account, so my son will drop off the cards at the German Consulate when he’s in the city tomorrow.
Thanks again.
