Need advice on Fort Worth neighborhoods!!

My boyfriend is moving to Fort Worth in August (to teach at TCU.) He’s trying to find somewhere to live, and I promised to help. He’s looking through those Apartment Guide thingies, which I find dubious. I have a vested interest in finding him someplace that is NEAR the university and NOT!!! in sprawling exurbia hell. (I will be VISITING him there…) ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED.

All of Tarrant county is sprawling suburbs. Pick a burb he likes and an apartment he’d like.

There are some nice and some very not so nice parts of most of the major cities: Arlington, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, North Richland HIlls, etc.

Fort Worth is a city, but it sprawls throughout various portions of the entire city all the way out to DFW airport.

Heh-heh. You haven’t been to DFW, have you?

It’s all exurbian hell… except for the urban hell, of course. Miles and miles of concrete, strip malls, mexican restaurants, single-unit detached housing, apartments, and haze. Why don’t you check it out on Google Earth?

Sounds like your kind of place.

Lose the caps and use less exclamation points.

If you take University south from I-30 you’ll pass the arboritum and zoo and climb a small hill. At it’s crest is an older, relatively quiet neighborhood. Just a bit further south and you’re at TCU.

The neighborhood is fairly extensive, well-maintained and is mostly older homes, relatively affordable, but is also seeing a lot of upgrading and restoration. In other words, it appeals to a variety of incomes. You’ve close access to major arteries, grocerys, malls, etc. Were I to teach at TCU it’s where I’d live.

Ahem. Clearly, I feel strongly about this issue. Sometimes, those exclamation points just put themselves on the page. Anyway, thanks for all the advice!
