Need advice on searching.

Under general questions within the last few hrs, I asked if turning lights on and off conserves energy and therefore less costly. A reply directed me to the answer by Cecil. I tried to put #conserving electrical energy# …search all forums and didn’t come up with an answer by Cecil.

What would you have written to search to find the answer to this question eventually coming up with Cecil’s answer. or any answer for that matter to this question?

If the answer was in a column, there’s a different search engine for those. It’s linked off of the Straight Dope main page.

Also if you are searching the forums keep in mind that the default for dates has been set for 5 DAYS AGO so you need to change it to ANY DATE if you want to search the whole site.
