I was busy last night, recovering from a busy day at work and catching up on House MD. The phone rang, so I answered it. It was a pre-recorded message regarding my position on Roe v Wade.
The voice (a woman’s) asked me if I supported the pro-life stance to press one now, and if I supported the pro-choice position to press 9. I pressed nine, and was immediately thanked for my support of the pro-LIFE “cause”. This puzzled me, but I thought that if I stayed on the phone, I would talk to a rep and point out the mistake. <cynical bark of laughter here>
The automated call went on, asking me if I was willing to “fight this noble cause” or some BS like that by “lending financial support”. I’m willing to be banker, if it gets me to a live person to whom I can talk, so I pressed 6 or whatever they asked me for. No dice on the live person; instead I am to expect something in the mail.
Two things bother me about this:
- Now I’ll be on some ridiculous mailing list that will take years to get off.
- It is a lie from beginning to end. Whatever institution/group is responsible for this is NOT interested in polling for accurate numbers regarding this issue, but is making whatever response it gets into a “vote” for their “side”. This is dishonest, unethical and sneaky–just about what I’d expect from the pro-birth side of things. I would have more respect for these people if they didn’t hold up posters of “bloody babies” and think that everyone who has an abortion is a reckless, uncaring piece of female trash. But that’s another rant for another day.
I’d like to complain, but the caller ID was “unknown name, unknown number”. No group was identified in the call. I think this thing was preset to register as support any call that lasted more than say 10 seconds. This aggravates me.
Any thoughts on what I can do?
