My own copy has long since disintegrated. Can someone with the book handy find a passage in a later chapter that describes New York City gradually dying as the looters, well, loot? Specifically, a bit about electricity rationing leading to a law preventing running elevators above the 20th (or so) floor, so in effect “the towers of New York were cut down”, or something along those lines.
I think there’s even a blog called Atlas Shrugged. (I just caught the name of it when I was surfing the web, but I haven’t looked for it as I was just “passin’ through”.)
I don’t know how much Ayn Rand stuff they have, but it might be worth a look.
The blog is just typical right-wing ranting, especially Obama bashing. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Objectivism or *Atlas Shrugged *or Ayn Rand.
I have to prepare a presentation on a particular technology’s impact on society. Since my partners are civil engineers, I threw out the idea of discussing the elevator.
My own copy of Atlas Shrugged has long fallen apart and I’m too cheap to get another one.
