Need computer help for school - secure download manager won't run

I am trying to download Visio through DreamSpark. They want me to download a secure download manager first, which I did. But I am then supposed to run this, and no matter what, it won’t run. I double click on it and the computer does nothing - no error messages, no complaints. Just…nothing, so I can’t get my file.

I am on Windows Vista. I am going to try it on an XP computer we have in the house, but any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

Well, it installs on XP. Fucking Vista. Anyway if anyone does have a solution for Vista I won’t turn it down.

Many programs like that have restricted access. Meaning Vista User Account Control or similar will pop up a message asking if you want to allow this program to run.

But I find that frequently that pop-up message does not pop up. Meaning that the program just sits in the background, waiting for permission from you. So you might try Alt+Tab to see all the running programs, and look for a User Account Control message box running.

Try running it in compatibility mode.

I’ve seen this too - one way to force it to show the UAC dialog is to Right-click the installer file (if it’s an exe) and Run As Administrator - you should then be immediately prompted for credentials of an administrator account

Right click on SDM_EN.msi go properties and unblock the msi… then it was able to run.

Well thank god for that.

Seriously.

Well, long story short, due to other reasons, my computer died. I can’t not have a computer during school, so I bought a new one, with Windows 7. Now at least I am able to quickly and easily download everything for school.
