Need help figuring out what this song is

Okay, I don’t have much to go on. But I thought if anyone here could help, it’s you guys.

All I have, lyrics-wise, is “Never let me go.”

It’s sung by a female.

And it reminds me of the song “Eternal Flame” by the Bangles.

That’s all I got…

Also, I hear it all the time playing at the local supermarket.

try googling your phrase, in quotes, with the word lyrics. I once found an old 70’s song that way when the only part of the words I remembered was “my emotions.” I’d been trying to remember it for literally years. I was very proud of myself. (ha)

I did that and after 10 pages of not finding what I was looking for, I came here. My search has been futile, unfortunately.

Make Me Lose Control

Good song, but that’s not it…especially considering Mr. Carmen isn’t a female.

Can you give us some more details? Is that the chorus? What type of music? Old or new?

Never Let Me Go by Judy Bridgewater

Sounds relatively new-ish, which means anything from about the mid-80s to today.

I don’t think it’s the chorus, though at one point the singer belts it out. “Never let me gooooooooooooo”.

It’s not the Judy Bridgewater/Jane Monheit song, that’s one of the one’s I found in my searches as well.

Maybe this? Never Let Me Go - Chris Reece & Jennifer Needles - YouTube

I’m gonna guess Beyonce’s End Of Time, since you said it sounded recent and you’re hearing it in a grocery store.

ETA: If you has said it sounded like an old song, I’d have guessed Rachel Portman’s Never Let Me Go.

I know you said female, but I think he sounds like a girl so… Justin Bieber’s “Never Let You Go”?

I’m assuming you’ve already checked out Florence and the Machine’s “Never Let Me Go.”

If you mistook Peter Cetera of Chicago for a woman, he sings “never let you go” in the song “Hard For Me to Say I’m Sorry,” and the song does sound a bit like “Eternal Flame.”

Dinah Washington?

First song that came to my Baby Boomer mind was this knocked-out nifty of the past (as the WIBG–Philadelphia DJs used to put it):

I don’t think Mel Carter sounds feminine, but his voice is on the high side, so someone else might.

I finally tracked it down. It’s called “Strange Thing” by Sophie B. Hawkins. Or maybe it’s called “Walking In My Blue Jeans.” One of those two.

Unfortunately the lyrics I gave you are from another some I’ve been trying to figure out.

Man, isn’t this crazy? After trying to figure out what these two songs are for the longest time, thinking they were one in the same and/or constantly getting them confused, I just figured out the other one.

It’s called “Lose Your Way” and coincidentally it too is by Sophie B. Hawkins. This is the one that, for whatever reason, reminds me of “Eternal Flame” and this is the one that has the phrase “never let me go.”

I started a thread here once posting just a few lines of a song I’d heard a friend perform in public once. Who did the original, I asked?

Turns out, it was my friend’s own song that he wrote.
