Ok, here’s my problem: I almost finished the webpage that I have been working on, and realized that I wanted to put a counter on it. So my question to you guys is, is there anyone here who would help me do a couter? I have HTML, but no Java or VB Scripting, which is why I cannot do it myself. Any help would be appreciated.
If you do a search, there are sites out there that will let you put your choice of graphical counters on your page while their server handles the details (I think some will actually give you usage stats as well as cumulative counts).
If you’re looking to do it yourself, there are also plenty of sites that will give you code snippets which you can modify to suit your tastes. That’s a great way to learn, actually.
Let me know if you have trouble finding links.
If you don’t have scripting or executable access on the server that is hosting your site, you’re at the mercy of the hosting organization.
You might try: http://www.TheCounter.com

i was going to recommend thecounter.com, but looks like enigma beat me to it.
they’re what i use for my page, and the stats they record is absolutely unbelievable.

Hey Enigma, thanks. I have another q, though. I went to couter.com and registered, and they gave me some javascript. Now my q is, where in my html do I put the java: in the head or the body?
In the body, wherever you want the counter to show up. You can also configure your counter to be invisible

I am looking at the source code for the counter and I do not know Java but it seems the code only configures the browser.
I think the only line that is really needed is
<IMG
SRC=“http://c1.thecounter.com/id=xxxxxx” BORDER=0>
and TheCounter just counts how many times this image has been requested.
maybe some expert can expand on this.
I have it working OK except it downloads real slow… also I cannot configure the presentation of the counter (advanced option in the menu), it does not seem to work.
I finally got the presentation right…
the counter works fine without the java
I think the JAVA sends TheCounter info about the browser that is being used for its statistics but if you do not need this info you can skip the java and just request the image
If you just need a simple counter, go to www.beseen.com, takes only minutes to get a counter, and all you need to put the counter on your page do is put a img src line.
