Need help naming my Austrailian Cattle Dog.

Love that name, but he’s a boy. NTTAWWT.

Been meaning to mention for a while - but presumably you are familiar with the meaning of the word?

And it’s Kiwi for Horse Piss…

But let’s not go there

What you said, but also special, untouchable, the opposite of “noa” (which means common). I didn’t choose it specifically for all that. Just happened to be reading a mystery by Ngaio Marsh at the time and it appeared often there.

Oh, there’s a dog name. Ngaio is pronounced Nigh-O. Great call name. How would you spell it though? Ngaio maybe, but you could go with Naiyo, or Niyo, or . . .

It’s Australian for “that horsepiss we sell to the English and Americans”

Congratulations on your new dog,

As mentioned already by others, I like Joey or Wally: good, simple, strong names with an Australian feel.

this I can get behind -
Americans have terrible taste in beer

Any of the mainstream Aussie beers beats crap like bud or corona* hands down

How could Cold Dish have a dog named anything other than Revenge?

Don Under.

Regards,
Shodan

From movies:

  • Quigley
  • Wez

Wally? No way. In Australian slang, a wally is someone silly or clumsy.

Dogmeat, of course.

Sadly, I’d go looking for a Last Continent (Pratchett) or The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (movie) reference.

Last Continent
Fourecks (XXXX)
Scrappy
Egregious
Bugarup

Priscilla
Lassiter
Tick
Uluru (not solely a Priscilla reference)

General Pratchett
(in the book, but in other books as well)
Luggage
Bursar

Name him underdog.

Comeonboygogetthecow!

Gotta go with Croc. Crocodile Dundee, Crocodile Hunter, saltwater croc, etc…

Then when you’re out in the yard cleaning up his business you can call him a Croc o’ shit.

I was going to also suggest Foster so that when he pees you can say, “Look! Foster’s making more beer.” But I see that joke has been alluded to already.

Mate seems to mean “friend” down under and I’m guessing he’ll be your friend as well, but that might not be the best name when you’re wandering around the neighborhood looking for him. “Mate! Come here Mate!”

Didn’t read thread, but an excellent name for an active dog is:

ZEKE!

Mate is so much more versatile than that Shadowfyre. It can mean a whole range of things, from

  • I know you, but can’t remember your name,
  • Stranger, who’s name I don’t know,
  • My best friend for decades,
  • the guy I’m about to punch in the face for being a wanker,
And numerous other uses as well. It’s all about context and tone

He’s also a wonderfully talented “13 man” code player
