This is gonna sound lame compared to most of the classics listed here, but the Dressed To Kill album by KISS sounds great after a heavy session. The songs are all pretty much standard mid-seventies hard rock, but it’s the guitar tone that does it. I recommend unplugging the headphones and blasting it through the speakers. The band themselves have always complained about the sound of this album, and said that the producer (Neil Bogart) was smoking a lot of pot at the time, so there ya go. Without pot: “eh”.
I wholeheartedly second Master Of Reality by Black Sabbath and Moving Pictures by Rush, and would add Stained Class by Judas Priest. Just try not to shoot yourself after.
Already established, but most of Pink Floyd. Alan’s Pyschedelic Breakfast, all of Umma-Gumma etc.
From Yes: Gates of Delirium and Close to the Edge are incredible in altered states.
Guinnevere from Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Elephant Talk by King Crimson.
Zappa, especially Joe’s Garage.
Much more but a good list could be built out of this thread.
