For the love of all that is good I cannot uninstall AVG. I wanted to give Avira a try for my anti virus and installed it with no problems. I then go to uninstall AVG and have had nothing but problems.
I think the first attempt was going to be okay but when I got sent to the AVG website to explain why I was dropping AVG, my computer BSOD’d on me. After the re-boot I see that AVG is still there with a yellow triangle on it. I can not complete the uninstall. I have repaired/reinstalled AVG but I still can’t get it to uninstall. The issue now seems to be the AVGIDSAgent which won’t stop. The uninstaller can’t stop the service, nor can I stop it manually. The service is even unstoppable for the AVG_remover software.
Well, for future reference: if you’re going to uninstall, you should always uninstall the old antivirus before installing the new one.
In fact, my suggestion was going to be to use System Restore to return your system to before you installed Avira, and then uninstal AVG before installing Avira again. (Only problem with said advice is that antiviruses often don’t play nice with System Restore.)
