AVG is pestering me to get rid of malware every 30 seconds or so (I have two other anti malware programs so I don’t need AVG) but I can’t uninstall using add/delete: says I must contact the administrator.
ITS MY COMPUTER…I’M THE ADMINISTRATOR!!!
how do I get rid of this PIA?
Just a WAG, but I had to this once with a different program. Sometimes, uninstall files get corrupted, and doing a ‘new install’ will let you then un-install it.
Or maybe you have to turn on (or off) your UAC (depending on your OS, etc…)
I suspect you have the Defender virus masquerading as avg. Xash has created a new sticky which addresses this. There have been at least five different threads on the subject this week.
This virus creates a pop up window that masquerades as existing antivirus software. As soon as you click anywhere on the window or try to close it, you’re infected.
One of the telltale signs is that it claims you don’t have admin privileges to do something… that’s simply the virus blocking you from accessing your actual antivirus software, your control panel, or other system tools.
I am assuming you are right clicking and choosing “run as administrator,” correct?
I strongly recommend Revo Unistaller to uninstall everthing.
I also agree sometimes when files get corrupted you have to install something again, then uninstall it.
I would definately also check out, as anson2995 said, about a virus pretending this.
Finally do you have more than one anti-virus on your computer. This is usually problematic. Having Anti Malwarbytes and Spybot with an antivirus is OK but if you have Norton or Avast and AVG you will have problems.
well, it stopped…for now…
