Removing "invisible" program

Last year someone downloaded the free version of AVG anti-virus onto my computer. For some reason it wouldn’t work on my computer. I uninstalled it. Now the new anti-virus software I’m trying to download keeps saying that it detects AVG on my computer.

It’s not listed in my add/ delete programs. It’s not listed in msconfig.

I have Wndows ME, this is what I’ve done so far:
Reinstalled then uninstalled AVG.
Removed all folders pertaining to AVG from program files.
Removed all programs pertaining to AVG found by search function.
Removed program from regristry file.
Used regristry cleaner
Used advanced ad/ delete program downloaded from internet.

None of hese things worked. Any ideas?

Download and run HijackThis, and post the logs here. Don’t delete anything using HijackThis, as you might mess up your PC if you delete the wrong entries.

I’m not sure if I can read the logs for entries related to AVG, but since you seem to be out of options we can give this a shot.

If, and only if you know know how to backup your Registry, you might open it and do a search for “AVG” and remove every listing you find. This may solve it, but no guarantee.

Back it up, then open “Run” and type in “regedit.” (without quotes, of course). After the first item you find, delete it, then hit F3 to continue the search.
