The app has lost the connection to the server, and I can’t figure out even what’s actually wrong. It used to log me out every few days, but I could log back in right away; this won’t even give me a login prompt. I went so far as to uninstall the app and then re-install it, and it accepted my email login but it still won’t update my In box in the app, it hasn’t updated since yesterday. I sometimes get an error message, but I don’t know exactly what I’m doing to get the message, and I didn’t write it down, but it said something about server credentials, and that I should check my settings or something. Sorry that’s so vague.
Maybe it’s time to try another email app. Samsung was just the default that came with the phone, and it’s been kind of a headache sometimes. Suggestions welcome for a better email app. Email is all I need, nothing complicated. I don’t even need to have more than one email address in the app. My email address comes under “other” when I go to add it to the app.
If you go into the three bars in the app, then access the settings icon (gear), you should be able to see the email accounts linked to the Samsung email. If your email account isn’t there, you can add it. If it shows, maybe delete it and re-add. Samsung may be assuming you are using their email account (the one that comes with your android/Samsung phone).
Where is your email account, Gmail? I used to use the Samsung email to have visibility into my shared email with my spouse (yahoo) and my Gmail, but found it had glitches in updating one or both, so I was missing stuff. I have since switched to just using the Gmail app directly (should appear in the Google menu as it’s own icon) and not having it go thru Samsung, which I use only for the yahoo mail now.
If it’s FUBARed anyway, go to Phone Settings → Apps → Clear storage. This will delete all data from the app & when you open it again, you’ll need to start from scratch, choose your email provider, enter your email address & pswd & any other settings for that app. Hopefully, that’ll resolve it for you but if you find you’re still having issues, change email apps. I use BlueMail for one of my emails, though I’ll warn you, it’s sometimes slow to update me that I have new email(s). If I open it & refresh they appear but I don’t always get notified timely. I’m sure you could find others in the Play Store.
Thanks, this did the trick apparently. The login process was the same as when I uninstalled the app and re-installed it, but I didn’t delete the data when I did that (I assumed the system would delete the data) and so I guess it just went back to where it had been. This time, it picked up the newer emails that weren’t showing before. Now to see if it continues to sync on its own.
I sent myself a test message from another account, and the phone picked it up. Success! Thanks again.
Update: well, Samsung email app is again not syncing, since just a few minutes after I deleted the data and logged in again. So I have found another email app, just called Email, from Edison Software. I don’t know anything about them, they seem to get decent reviews. They asked me on installation if I wanted to allow them to use some of my non-sensitive data for what sounded like a good purpose, but I declined, and they let me use it anyway. I hope they honor my choice.
