Need Names of Successful Anglo-American Bands

How many successful musical groups can you think of that have had both English & American members?

A few that come to mind:

Fleetwood Mac
King Crimson (80’s to present version)
Monkees
Pretenders

Any others come to mind?

Crosby, Stills and Nash.

You can add Neil Young if you want. He’s Canadian, and a subject of the Queen.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Foreigner, right?

Shirley Manson from Garbage is Scottish, but the rest of the band members are from the US. Though I doubt she’d appreciate being called English.

The Doors in their 21st century incarnation (Ian Astbury, Ray Manzarek, and Robbie Krieger).

The Who, post 1979 (keyboardist Jon ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick is American).

The Police - Stewart Copeland is American-born though he grew up in the UK.

British session pianist Nicky Hopkins played on a number of Jefferson Airplane albums. Does that count?

Katrina and the Waves - two Americans and two Brits whose first album contract was with a Canadian recording company.

The Travelling Wilburys – Harrison was British; the rest, Yanks.
Traffic – 1971-72, when they used Jim Gordon and later Barry Beckett (both American) as their drummer.

Are we including Ireland, too? If so, then I nominate Thin Lizzy.

The original lineup of Rainbow consisted of Ritchie Blackmore (ex-Deep Purple, UK) on guitar, New York native Ronnie James Dio on vocals, and the rest of Dio’s band Elf. By the second album, Ritchie fired all the Elf people (except Dio) and replaced them with mostly British musicians. Since then the band has been a revolving door of mostly British musicians and American singers.

R.J. Dio also fronted Black Sabbath on two very influential albums. Dio’s own solo band consisted of himself, two Brits (Jimmy Bain & Vinnie Appice) and an Irishman (Vivian Campbell). After that the lineups get a bit messy…

Jethro Tull’s drummer (Doane Perry) is American. He’s been with them a good couple of decades.

Judas Priest’s drummer, Scott Travis is an American. He’s been with the band since 1989. Admittedly, this is after their peak.

Jeff Lynne is also a Brit.
