I usually run the Virginia reel with a pretty large group of eleven-year-olds. It’s so fun, but it takes so long to teach them, and it’s not that engaging unless you’re the head couple. This year I’ll be doing this with 50 kids and it won’t be feasible.
I was at a music concert festival last summer and a band ran a huge square dance with the audience of a few hundred people. Obviously, there was no way any instructions could be given ahead of time, so the caller did dances that were small-group (as opposed to lines), and everyone just did what the caller said. Brilliant!
The problem is I don’t know any except monkey in the middle. That one is perfect and is exactly what I need, but do you know of any other simple ones similar to monkey in the middle that I would be able to look up on the web and learn really fast?
