Need the name of a country music song for an article headline...

We’re doing a story on Country Music, and we have a sidebar of factoids (fan fair attendance figures, hall of fame info., first CM recording in 1927, etc.). We want to use a song title as the headline, but I’m no Country Music fan. Any help? It’s a crossword puzzle (the layout is finished), so it has to be right around 14-16 characters.

Basically, a “keep on truckin’” kinda theme–something noncommittal that says, boy Country Music’s going strong"

“NO CHEATIN’ HEARTS”, the orig. head, was just barely too long. (“NO CHEATIN’ HEART” is all that fits)

I like “ALWAYS ON MY MIND”, but also too long.

and “DADDY SANG BASS”, though it fits lengthwise, doesn’t fit as well content-wise.

How about “FAMILY TRADITION”.

Some country artists, but by no means all, follow the industry in a family tradition, for example

Hank Williams, Sr. - Hank Jr. - Hank Williams III
Mother Maybelle Carter - June Carter Cash - Roseanne Cash

OTOH, Some country music fans inherit their appreciation from their family.

Also “YOUNG COUNTRY” by Hank Jr.

How about TEAR IN MY BEER?

Oh! I like Opengrave’s suggestion. It is so much better then mine I am not even going to give mine, just “me to” Opengrave.

Murder On Music Row

How about STILL DOIN’ TIME (a hit for George Jones, if anyone asks)

I wasn’t sure how much you’re willing to monkey with the title to make it fit your headline, but something like UNBROKEN CIRCLE would be enough for most country music fans to get that you were referencing “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”

Cold, Cold Heart?

Jambalaya?

Hello Darlin

Ring of Fire?
I Walk The Line?
Race Is On?
Fightin’ Side Of Me?

I only listen to classic country, so apologies for not including any contemporary stuff.

I thought of “Walk the Line,” but the subject matter is a bit shady…

toadspittle, I don’t think we’re thinking of the same “I Walk The Line”. The Johnny Cash song I’m thinking of goes…

I keep a close watch
on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide
open all the time
I keep the ends out
for the tie that binds
because you’re mine
I walk the line

I don’t think the version you referred to is a country song? The only band that I know of doing that “I Walk The Line” is Aliex Sex Fiend.

Er, that should read Alien Sex Fiend.

:smack:

Tumbling Tumbleweeds is too long.

Amarillo By Morning

King of the Road

I Brake for Brunettes

or try one of these.

Mountain Music (from Alabama)

On The Road Again (from Willie Nelson)

My personal favorite (although it is admittedly too long for your use) is Thank God And Greyhound You’re Gone by Roy Clark.

How about…

Rhinestone Cowboy?

There’s bound to be hundreds of options available…

Can you narrow it down a bit? What are ya lookin for, more or less?

If you’re going to start an article about the history of country music.
Then you’re bound to mention Jimmy Rodgers and Hank Williams Sr.
“In The Jailhouse Now” by the Father of Country Music,
Jimmy Rodgers

http://www.jimmierodgers.com/

includes a list of all his songs…just pick one
or perhaps, “Your Cheatin Heart” by Hank Sr.

Hey Good Lookin’

“Don’t Worry” by Marty Robbins
