So, I moved from CA to NY five weeks before the end of 2006. I’m using TurboTax for my taxes. It’s done a pretty good job of holding my hand through the entire process, but I’m stumped on an error it’s found in my NY state taxes. It asks me to fill in part of a particular form, but it doesn’t show the whole form, so I’m a little confused as to what information they’re asking for. It also doesn’t tell me the form number, and I’ve been unsuccessful at matching it up with a real-life form at http://www.tax.state.ny.us/forms/
Here’s a screenshot , which I’ll transcribe for the graphically impaired:
You Must Fix This Error
Nonresident Annualized Tax & Credit Wks: Line 4-3 must be entered.
Line 4 _________
4 California AGI. Enter amount
from schedule CA (540NR)
line 45 that is applicable
for the period _______ _______ _______ _$XX,XXX*
5 Annualization amounts ___4___ __2.4_ ___1.5_ ___1___
6. Annualized California AGI
*Turbotax filled in my Gross CA income in the 4th line.
So Turbotax is saying I have three errors: those three empty lines. I’ve looked at CA form 540NR, and line 45 consists of only one box, which is supposed to contain:
So, if I were filling out that form, I’d put 0, so my best guess is to enter 0 in all three blank spaces. But I’d like to know for sure what the hell I’m supposed to put there (without clicking that expensive “Have a Tax Question?” link). Any ideas?
