Looking for some games for Wii that have a fun 2-player mode. We lean more towards the casual and platformer/adventure/RPG genres. I can have fun with almost anything, but the roommate is a bit pickier, however, sitting at home playing by myself is awfully boring.
We’ve enjoyed:
Kirby’s Epic Yarn
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Various LEGO games, although they’re practically all the same
Probably others, but those are the most recent.
She’s disliked:
Tales of Symphonia (I played the /hell/ out of the GC one, but this one “took too long at the beginning” - thinking I may play another hour or so to where we reliably have a second character in battles)
Super Mario Galaxy
Harry Potter (the most recent one)
The last two-player RPG game I remember getting immersed in was Phantasy Star Online when it came out on Wii, so obviously, I’m not a powergamer, but with the holiday weekend, I’d like to find something!
When I want to play with my family, I buy old games I already own off of wii ware. There’s also a new, revamped version of Dr. Mario and tetris. I’d give the online store a look through!
As far as your genre interests…Legend of the mystical Ninja might be worth a glance, if it’s on there!
Have you tried Mario Kart Double Dash for the Gamecube? It is, as far as I know, the only co-op Mario Kart game. One player drives the kart while the other fires projectiles. Super fun.
I grew watching mickey cartoons and thought this was going to be…well…epic! But I found it to be a really sleepy game. And for that matter, is there a 2P function?
Don’t bother with DKC Returns as a co-op game. It may look appealing, but it’s a difficult game and there are enough levels that were clearly designed for single-player (e.g. levels where every other platform crumbles when either player steps on it) that it proves extremely frustrating for the weaker player on co-op. As a single-player game, it’s very fun.
I was going to suggest Rayman Raving Rabbids, but I don’t recall if the multiplayer mode is co-op or not. It’s a cute “party game” with a bunch of minigames that you can play in story mode or individually.
Tried DKC Returns, and you’re right, frustrating as hell for someone who remembers the original. We’ve got Mario Kart, and while fun, it’s not exactly immersive. Over the weekend, we also tried Monster Hunter Tri and Soulcalibur: Legends. Might go back to Soulcalibur, but swinging the controller to swing one’s weapon seems a little bit corny.
Found a copy of Phantasy Star Online in town for less than $50, so we’re going to try that next.
any of the Boom Blox games are fun
also the Resident Evil Chronicles the first one is really fun with 2 players. I did not play the second one so don’t know about that one.
