Needed: toaster oven of the gods

My mom would like a new toaster oven for Christmas, and suggested the Kitchenaid model, but it has gotten pretty lousy reviews. She has a setup where it would fit in her pantry, so I am concerned that this model gets extremely hot, but I don’t know of a model that doesn’t (mine does - an Oster toaster oven).

Can anyone recommend a really good toaster oven in the $100 or less range?

Dunno if you can get one for less than a hunnerd, and I doubt you’d want to put one in your pantry, but every countertop convection oven I’ve ever seen is like a toaster oven on steriods. You can cook a couple of turkey breasts in those fuckers.

As soon as we get more counter space, we’re getting one. I hate turning on the real oven in the summer time.

PS: I almost typed “desktop convection oven.” As opposed to a “laptop convection oven.”

I’ve been working with computers for far too long.

I tried a convection toaster oven several years ago and it was horrible. The regular cheap toaster ovens that need to be replaced every 5 years or so are the best.

Agreed on the “buy a $25 Black and Decker at Target and plan to replace it in a year or two” theme.

We used to have a fairly pricey Delonghi that took ages to get hot and made the most bizzare howling noises as it warmed up as if it needed oiling.

Someone gave me a Cuisinart not long ago that has been great. I’d second the cheapo B&D suggestion, except that ours kept catching on fire.

I asked this question not so long ago (Recommend a good toaster oven? - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board). We bought the T-Fal Avante Elite recommended by crazyjoe. It’s fantastic. Completely awesome.

Wow! I was just about to chime in about the T-Fal, I am glad you guys bought it and liked it. I got a screaming deal on mine from Amazon, don’t know if it’s still that cheap (79 bucks, I think)

Get one with a “cool touch” exterior, where the exterior is insulated from the heat. I learned this the hard way, by burning myself repeatedly :smack:
