Needing to replace an old ASUS Republic of Gaming laptop

My friend’s Republic of Gaming laptop seems to be failing. Her local computer repairman
has named various things he needs to replace which would probably take her over $500.
She originally paid $659 for this used almost five years ago, We’re basically trying to
find her something comparable, but a more recent system, which won’t take up to
$1000. What should we be looking for?
The specs presently are
ASUS G75VX 17.3"
(1 TB, 2.4 GHz, 8 GB)
Notebook - G75VX-BHI7N09

Thanks for any help & direction.

I would recommend highly Slickdeals

Go to the computer category and look around. You might have to wait, but it’ll be worth it. It’s a site where people post deals and then commenters will have their say.

It’s very educational.

If you need something ASAP, and price is not a huge deal then look at expired deals and you can still read the comments and see what the machine is all about.

Thanks- basically, though, I want to know what sort of ROG laptop I should even be looking for to find the next generation-to-latest gen of what she already has. I am clueless in looking for this stuff.

ROG line really isn’t marketed for the under $1000 arena. ASUS keeps more of the TUF line around there, but an ROG, might be a tougher search.

It’s going to be a very tall order to get a recent ASUS ROG laptop of any flavor for under $1000.

I would suggest looking at a lesser known builder like Sager. I have two Sager machines myself and I’ve been extremely happy with both of them; they are by far the best “bang for your buck” custom laptop builder I’ve found. You can order directly from them. Other vendors sell their stuff, but they sell at the same price elsewhere so you might as well just get it from the manufacturer direct.

Sager seemed to go beyond what we wanted to spend, but I opened a new thread with a different focus & am closing this.
Thanks everyone.

ETA: oops, missed The closing part on first read. i’ll find the new one instead
