I’m care of a website for a friend of mine - for his tattoo and piercing business. My fiance’s brother wants me to build a website for his new business installing tankless water-heaters.
I put the first site together with a combination of Netscape Composer and ksh scripts I wrote using Cygwin tools. The hardest part was the generation of the gallery pages, that’s what the scripts did for me. I went back and retrofitted some basic CSS into the tattoo site though I’m sure I could’ve done a better job if I had a better idea of what I was doing.
My brother-in-law-to-be has no idea what he wants yet so it’s probably going to be an annoying iterative process to get info on the page in a way that makes him happy.
I’m trying to be nice about this but nice doesn’t include shelling out $400 for a copy of Dreamweaver. On the other hand, the page-at-a-time editor isn’t really working out either.
What I need is a low-priced but decently featured editor. Something that’ll let me manage a website, not just a web-page. Bonus points for having features that’ll let me build thumbnail galleries linked to full sized pages (see my site above if that clarification).
Any suggestions?
