Neighborhood Eyesore

So, there’s been a blue Barcalounger sitting on the sidewalk outside my neighbor’s house for over a month now. At some point, it tipped over into the gutter and they thoughtfully righted it and left it there. I can imagine that at some point there was some hope on their part, however futile, that the garbagepeople would take this thing, but surely after a month they are pushing the limits of denial.

Yes, I have considered setting it aflame, but I’m confident I’d spend the next [insert number here] years looking at the charred remains of a blue Barcalounger. I’d also prefer not to address this directly with them as I don’t know them at all. Besides, I pay my taxes and figure I’d be depriving some enforcement agency of the chance to do their job. So has anyone else dealt with this sort of thing? Who should I call?

(Mods, if there is no definitive answer on this, please move to the appropriate forum for me - thanks!)

If it is still functional the Goodwill might come pick it up for free. Assuming it isn’t too ravaged by weather. Or you could always haul it off to the dump yourself, if it’s bothering you that much.

Our city sanitation dept has four Big Trash Days a year and one HazMat Day, noted in advance on our water/sweage/sanitation bill.

Check your bill for a number. They might even do special pickups.

Seems like City Inspectors could cite the property fro nuisance abatement, with fines after a certain amount of time. Around here, they do that for unkept lawns and non running / non tagged vehicles in the street or yard. (I’ve even seen them go after junk piles in a driveway before.

That’s a good idea. Call the trash/recycling people and arrange a pickup. Give them your neighbor’s address. If you know your neighbor’s name give them that too. They’ll come pick up the garbage and bill your neighbor, if a charge applies. Most cities don’t pay too much attention to whether the person calling matches the name/address/phone number of the particular house.

Tough to do in Jellybean the Celica, even if I could lift it, which I can’t (small woman here).

City Inspectors or Sanitation sounds like a plan…

Thanks, guys!

Call these people right here.
