Neil Gaiman accused of being serial sexual abuser

It’s sort of like how, when I was battling bedbugs, after a while, there was a part of me that wanted to stop checking to see if I could find any. But that part was overruled by the part that knew that I had to keep checking, because if there were still any, they’d come back, and it’d be even harder to eradicate them.

Unfortunately, humans gonna human, and I suspect that a lot of folks really do choose to stop searching for the bedbugs. Or rapists.

Yeah. We can’t stop this shit by pretending it doesn’t happen. We’ve tried that. Doesn’t work.

All of this goes for me, as well…

And I did have an emotional attachment to Gaiman. Hell, I wooed my wife by reading Good Omens out loud to our geology class. Not sure I’m ever going to tell that story unabridged again. Glad Pratchett isn’t around for this.

I thought the Lenny Henry miniseries stuff was the source material, or at least not a derivative version. I could be mistaken.

Yes, the Henry/Gaiman TV series came first, the novel afterwards.

Well, maybe, but at the expense of the people he continues to abuse. At least this way, they have some warning, and more support if they run/fight/just need to complain.

Morally? Not at all.

Counterpoint:

Fair exception

Dark Horse Comics announced last night that issue 7 will be the last.

“Last week, Anansi Boys 7 hit stands. It will be the last issue. Dark Horse will not release a trade,” Bernardin said in a post on his BlueSky.

“…Anansi Boys is about two brothers, twins. One is meek, timid, like a flopsy, set-upon puppy. The other brother is narcissistic, hedonistic, governed by nothing other than his own pursuit of sensation and pleasure. They seem so different, but they are very much flip sides of the same coin. Literally. I never gave too much thought about that. Until now. My heart breaks for the survivors and any pain seeing these books on the shelves might have caused.”

Looks like Rhianna Pratchett is done with him.

Sandman cancelled after season 2 also.

Fucking idiot (Gaiman). The PR is that this was planned–apparently from what I have pieced together it will combine 4 arcs into 12 eps, and was always conceived to just be 2 seasons: Season of Mists, Brief Lives, The Kindly Ones, and The Wake. This means no A Game Of You, none of the excellent standalones like Ramadan or the Shakespeare one (all those faerie character designs would like blow the entire budget). I don’t buy it.

Edit: Apparently Shakespeare makes the cut, as might A Game Of You for maybe 1 full ep. if we are lucky.

Meanwhile, Amanda Palmer was out and about last week, getting fucking music industry awards, and being a completely evil hypocrite in her acceptance speech..
Real freedom is the “freedom to be heard”? “The freedom to choose”? Well, unless you’re the broken girl Amanda personally dangles in front of her rapist ex., I guess.

Fuck WIMM, whoever they are. Performative feminists who don’t give a fuck about real victimized women, based on their choice of honouree.

While the commercial/social response to Gaiman has been quick and pleasingly merciless, I am utterly baffled as to why Palmer seems to be skating on this. The Vulture article made it pretty clear IMHO that she is utterly and knowingly complicit, feeding him victims and then managing the fallout through manipulation and gaslighting. It’s abominable. And yet… nothing I’ve seen suggests that is rebounding on her.

Plenty of condemnation on Reddit that I’ve seen, but otherwise, not much.

I have an acquaintance, a very talented local artist, who draws art for Palmer and the Dresden Dolls - tour art, posters, that kind of thing. It pains me that she’s very much still stanning for her on Facebook, after everything has come out. Cultists gotta cult, I guess.

Best case scenario she was callously indifferent and self-centered. Not knowing or believing he was actually committing assault, but shrugging off that he seemed to have an issue with constantly seducing the help. “Oh, Neil - can you please not fuck every nanny?” All while living a fantasy where her (mostly unpaid or underpaid) servants were actually “friends” and “peers”, so, hey - it’s not a grossly inappropriate power imbalance at all!

That’s the best case, which is pretty fucking bad IMO. But at least it’s not actively complicit, just a stupid and shitty inadvertent enabler of his worst impulses. The best case. Worst case, yeah she’s kind of a monster.

Either way she deserves some blow-back.

…I’ve never seen a thread where someone is telling on themselves so creepily…

JFC.

That falls apart when you consider she refused to testify to the police when a case was laid.
