George Takei is latest celeb accused of sexual assault

Story here.
I thought he was one of the good guys.

scratch a man, find a rapist

I’m not sure who said that first, but I have found it to be a true statement. I am sorry to hear allegations against George Takei.

Somebody’s gonna post it, so it might as well be me.

“Oh, my!”

Yeah, that’s sexist. A lot of men find rape repugnant.

We have a serious problem, though, as a culture. I doubt Takei views what he did, if he did it, as victimizing. Louie apparently didn’t either. Which really points to a problem we have with getting people to understand what consent means. Some seem to think it means “didn’t say no.”

I hope we are collectively learning the meaning of consent as this unfolds.

George may or may not be guilty of what he is being accused of, but I am DEFINITELY sick of this attitude that if you are ACCUSED you must be GUILTY.

In cases of multiple victims coming forward, there isn’t much room for doubt.

Then why isn’t Bill Clinton in jail?

(Or Bill Cosby for that matter)

UK-based journalist and frequent writer for The Guardian Julie Bindel told the “misogynist trolls” on Twitter that “[a]ll men are rapists and should be put in prison then shot.”

Because “he probably did it” is not admissible evidence in a court of law. I’m not at all familiar with the evidence against him, but if it makes you feel any better, I think he’s a manipulative scumbag at the bare minimum.

It’s hard to parse the content through the hateful vitriol toward feminists. Do you consider a website with such hateful content credible? This damages your credibility. Try again.

Does it count when a cat scratches me? Because if so, I’ve raped a lot.

How about ‘All sex is rape’?

I also don’t think it’s fair to judge feminism by idiots like Julie Bindel (who’s of the TERF variety)

I don’t understand your point. Some people are misandrist lunatics. I’ve called them out repeatedly. Sexism against men should be no more tolerated than sexism against women. If the journalist said to shoot all men, fire her. What are you after, here? Someone said a sexist thing in this thread and you’re mad about it? I’d be mad, too. Pit that person and stop spreading hate. This thread is about sexual assault.

Those people are nuts. I won’t “no true feminist” TERFs but they are against pretty much everything I stand for. It’s like generalizing about Christians using that guy who blew up the federal building.

I was responding to Cub Mistress’s post, illustrating that ‘who said it first’ is not important since it is still being said. Not that I agree with it, and fully understanding that only radical women believe it the way the so-called journalist does. Your response to my response seemed a bit snarky to me, so I replied with a joke.

Gotcha. It was snarky because of the avalanche of hate in that link. It’s shocking in the way a minority might feel stumbling across racist propaganda unexpectedly. I am in no way okay with what that woman said, whether she meant it or not.

Also I didn’t look at your second link, but if I had I might have understood better.

You just poked the yellow jacket nest.

In this incident we only know that Scott Brunton was unconscious and woke to the groping because that was his point of view. What if from George’s point of view he may have been dizzy and drunk but was otherwise affectionate. After all, he did stop once Brunton said “No.” George may have had no idea Brunton wasn’t in a fit state to acquiesce. Maybe he was very agreeable about it before he lost consciousness (or napped, or just can’t remember).

Also consent wasn’t the important factor it has become in latter years, and even now it’s still argued as ambiguous in some situations. I mean, “it was a different time” is a lame excuse, but matters like that really did have a different priority, or none at all.

I guess that’s the best I can do about imagining a scenario where George Takei is still as decent a human being as I have always thought. I guess we’ll see how he addresses it.
