A couple of times now when I’ve been abroad, I’ve seen postcards for sale that were rather revealing of the human physique… everything from relatively tame stuff (topless women on the beach) to stuff one would normally see here only in Penthouse or Playgirl (example: a close-up shot of a man’s penis wearing heart-shaped sunglasses).
I’ve been tempted a couple of times to thoroughly embarrass a couple of friends by sending racy postcards home, but I always figured that the USPS probably wouldn’t deliver them. Is that true? Would my friends get in trouble for being the intended recipients?
I am a letter carrier. As far as I know, there isn’t a policy being enforced. I’m sure one exists, but I personally don’t have time to check out both sides of the mail I’m sorting. Even if I did see one, I might have to show it all my coworkers, but I would deliver it. MAybe a fundie carrier wouldn’t. Maybe they would put it in an envelope. I’ll ask tomorrow. The person you sent it to cannot be held responsible for your silliness.
A fellow I worked with had a collection of such “racy” postcards pinned up in his office (in a spot where they were safely undetectable unless you sat in his chair). They were mostly sent through the mail, I think.
I asked a couple of people at work today. My coworkers said that after passing it around and laughing their asses off, they would deliver it. The supervisors looked at me like I’d slipped a cog and waved me back to my route case.
As an experiment, next time you see one, send it to me and I’ll let you know if I get it!!!
I’m a mail carrier too, and I have delivered some pretty racy postcards. They do make the trip around the office first, though. The only thing I ever refused to deliver was a drawing of a naked woman (done by a prisoner … they are just so artistic) that was just horrible. The way it was drawn was just abusive and offensive, and I gave it to my supervisor and told him if he wanted it delivered he could take it out himself. He sent it back.
