Godspeed Lafayette.
Great actor, great character.
Thirty nine is no age at all.
Lafayette was an icon and often the best thing about True Blood, but I was also really enjoying Ellis’s work on Elementary. I’d hoped that his role as Shinwell – an ex-con ex-gang member – would help him avoid typecasting and open even more doors for him.

I was sorry to hear this. I was looking forward to seeing more of him on Elementary as well.
Heart failure at 39? Yikes!! RIP, Nelsan.
Shinwell was Lafayette? I never recognised him!
And yeah, this is sad, so young.
Well, that wasn’t going to happen. His character died.
He was genuinely good on Elementary, though, even if his storyline kind of meandered a bit. A powerful performance.
Yeah, I recognized something in his voice before anything else.
Family is saying it was alcohol withdrawal.
Ouch. If that was the case, if he had heart failure due to going through alcohol withdrawal syndrome, that means that very likely he went into full-blown delirium tremens >.<
That is a horrendously nasty way to go. I am a bit puzzled, though – if he was a heavy enough drinker that he would end up going into severely dangerous withdrawal territory, he should have been quitting alcohol under the watchful eye of a doctor, in order to minimize the chances that something like this would happen… Was he following a medically supervised detox program?
I think I missed an episode…
