Yup, that pretty much sums it up. My fianceé an I took of to Newport, Rhode Island on friday afternoon and tied the knot after the decision was made on Thursday night. Frantic calling to find someone capable of a two hour dry cleaning job ensued, as well as purchasing a dress for the occasion and lining up a JP. I’m just happy and wanted to share it with my fellow Dopers.
Allow me to be the first to congratulate you and your new husband and to wish you many years of happiness and all sorts of gooshy love moments when nobody’s looking. Just keep him out of the BBQ Pit and everything should be dandy!
You should be in your honeymoon bed now!!
Turn off the computer, take off your clothes and put a smile on the bridegroom’s face!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!!!
And a huge HURRAH!!! to you for foregoing the huge ceremony - best decision I ever made, and hope it was for you too!!
Olentzero, thank you for your congratulations, but I am the husband. I am looking forward to more gooshy moments.
ChiefScott, unfortunately, my wife had to return to North Carolina. We won’t have the real honeymoon for another year (when I move down there from Connecticut).
KimKatt, it was the best decision. It was simply perfect.
You bastard! I was going to open a thread about your wedding. Ah, well.
I’ve already raised many a glass to your most excellent union with a brilliant, beautiful woman that you don’t deserve, but, what the hell?
Cheers!
Tymp, a.k.a. the maid of honor, I do appreciate the many, many, many glasses of alcoholic beverages you raised in our honor, but I am of the opinion that it hasn’t been enough. We’ve got over seven thousand Dopers out there who have to have a drink with us!
I’m all for eloping. My last girlfriend and I were nowhere near being ready for marriage, but we discussed, semi-seriously, eloping. I think marriage isn’t as scary as wedding planning.
My fantasy is to run off to Vegas and get married by an Elvis (no, not an impersonator; the real Elvis is alive and kicking, performing weddings) at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip. He’ll top it off by singing “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” and we’ll top it off later that night, in our cheap motel room on the outskirts of town.
Anyway, everytime friends of mine get engaged and plan a big wedding, all the hassles that they mention make me say “just go elope and we’ll have a big party for you when you return.” I had an uncle elope and my Dad still hasn’t really forgiven him, so he’s extracted a promise from me to give him 24 hours notice on any future wedding I may have. I might honour that promise, but probably not, since I have a feeling the time passed from “Hey, wanna get married tonight?” to Elvis singing will be a bit less than 24 hours. We’ll send him a postcard. My mom, though, doesn’t believe me that I’ll do it. I would, of course, should I find a woman willing to with me – any single female Dopers out there?
Anyhoo, sorry for the hijack. Way to go, Nen!
I’m raising a glass to you right now . Slainte
Congratulations!!! All the best for the future .
Now I know I’m one of the last people most of the dopers want to see post to this but…
Congratulations!!!
Eloping must be much more bonding and romantic than plannign a wedding. At least you get the time to yourselves instead of focusing on the wedding party.
Ah… wish I could be doing that eloping thing.
Good Luck:)
Tubagirl
tubagirl: I haven’t posted in your other thread, but my opinion was sympathetic to you, and I’m terribly sorry that the moral minority crashed down upon thee. I hope all’s well in your chateux d’amour, however.
Anyway, why don’t you and Chris just elope? It’s cheaper, easier, and more fun. Right?
The dress is bought and the invitations sent…
besides my dad is having a ball paying for his ‘little princess’s’ wedding. My sister isn’t looking like she is going to have a wedding ever… So now he is enjoying spoiling me.
And my mom would cry for months…
Maybe that is my problem… I care too much about what other people think…
Congratulations-
May you always be even happier together than you are right now!
Scotti
Congratulations to the blissful bride and groom! May the two of you together be stronger, better and happier both of your dreams combined.
::popping a cork on icy Champagne bottle::
Here’s to Nen and his wife!
Veb
I’d like to add my congratulations, too.
But waiting a year for a honeymoon?? Yeesh!!
D’ohh! I do know the difference between fiancée and fiancé. I took French for four years in high school! All the best to the both of you anyway, like I said.
Montfort, tubagirl and Scotti, you’re not drinking!
yojimbo and Veb, I expect you to continue drinking until everyone else arrives for the toast.
DRY, I know that a year is a long time to wait, but Israel, Cyprus, Crete, a few other Greek islands and Sicily will be well worth the wait.
Olentzero, I find it highly amusing that you would make such an error considering your education in French. Again, your congratulations are most warmly accepted.
(Just an FYI to the Dopers: my fianceé is lurking about this thread to see the comments, perhaps we can convince her to become a Doper with the proper allure which is inherent in us members).
I’m a quite drunk… never fear I’m reveling!!!
Hey, Nen, you know me. I haven’t been sober since the eve of your wedding, but I’m always more than happy to raise yet another pint. Cheers to you and Mrs. Nen!
Hope she’s reading. That title should piss ‘er off.
Okay, bottoms up Nen!
