In his column Who makes electric chairs and other equipment for executions?, Cecil mentions in passing that Ernst Zundel was on trial in Canada for the offence of spreading false news, in relation to his denial of the Holocaust.
Ultimately, the Supreme Court struck down the offence of spreading false news as unconstitutional: R. v. Zundel, (1992) 2 S.C.R. 731. The Court held that the provision infringed freedom of expression, contrary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
