Nepotism Part II - The Music Industry

The “Nepotism in Hollywood” thread was revealing.

Now, it seems to me that there is also considerable nepotism in the music industry. (You know: Artist B gets a recording contract because he’s the brother/son/nephew of Artist A.)

I don’t believe it’s as rampant as it is in the film and television industries. (Reason: Most people are capable of acting; not everyone can sing.)

Let’s find out. Let’s make another list. Please list the earlier performer first, followed by the second (third, fourth, etc.) family member on the scene.

ONE EXAMPLE PER POST PLEASE!

I’ll start:

Hank Williams–> Hank Williams, Jr. --> Hank Williams, III

Frank Zappa --> Dweezil Zappa
Bob Dylan --> Jacob Dylan
Nat King Cole --> Natalie Cole

Julio -> Enrique Iglesias(sp?)

Brian Wilson - Carnie and Wendy Wilson

“I thought: opera, how hard can it be? Songs. Pretty girls dancing. Nice scenery. Lots of people handing over cash. Got to be better than the cut-throat world of yoghurt, I thought.” - Seldom Bucket

Just a question. Does it have to be “true” nepotism… ie. the second performer gets the deal solely because of his/her relationship with the established performer?

I guess I’m thinking of Julio & Enrique Iglesias, for example… I’m not sure Enrique got his record deal solely on the basis of his name.

Just wanted to get a clarification on whether you’re really looking for nepotism or just looking for family names that have spawned several acts.

Ricky Nelson(DID he even sing?)—>Nelson(Or that nasty long blond hair twin brother thing form the early 90’s)

Bob Dylan–>Jacob Dylan

Frank Sinatra–>Nancy Sinatra

(Now I’ve got “these boots were made for walkin’…” stuck in my head!)

–Groucho Marx

Did he sing? The guy was a dang hit machine. Of course he only got his recording contract because he was the son of Ozzie Nelson, and starred on the show “Ozzie and Harriet”.

Kierkegaard: As befits your name, you are taking this thread way too seriously. :wink:

Johnny Cash → Roseanne Cash

Wynona and Naomi Judd, with a bonus Hollywood crossover, Ashley

I say this counts:

Jackson 5 --> Janet Jackson --> LaToya Jackson

The Osmonds

The Andrew Sisters

Hanson

Naw, psycat, family acts don’t count. It has to be one family member arriving on the scene, followed by another family member who probably wouldn’t have gotten a recording contract except for the fact that the first family member had “made it”.

Thus, the Jackson 5 --> Janet Jackson thing counts because Janet Jackson wasn’t part of the original Jackson 5, and probably got her solo contract only because of the family connection.

Connee, Vet and Martha Boswell?

dammit spoke- stop picking on me. :stuck_out_tongue:

ok ok I’ll think harder.

Umm… ok! Sorry about that… had to take my existential ponderance hat off for a moment, eh…

Then how about another cross over one? Frank Stallone… we would have never heard of this guy if his brother Sly wasn’t such a “fine” actor, right?

Is that better?

Now this would work:

The Osmond Brothers --> Marie Osmond

It’s only 'cause I dig ya. :wink:

This sorta works, though it’s a Hollywood/music industry crossover:

Sean Penn → Michael Penn

The Stallone connection’s a good example, though.
