Now, it seems to me that there is also considerable nepotism in the music industry. (You know: Artist B gets a recording contract because he’s the brother/son/nephew of Artist A.)
I don’t believe it’s as rampant as it is in the film and television industries. (Reason: Most people are capable of acting; not everyone can sing.)
Let’s find out. Let’s make another list. Please list the earlier performer first, followed by the second (third, fourth, etc.) family member on the scene.
ONE EXAMPLE PER POST PLEASE!
I’ll start:
Hank Williams–> Hank Williams, Jr. --> Hank Williams, III
“I thought: opera, how hard can it be? Songs. Pretty girls dancing. Nice scenery. Lots of people handing over cash. Got to be better than the cut-throat world of yoghurt, I thought.” - Seldom Bucket
Just a question. Does it have to be “true” nepotism… ie. the second performer gets the deal solely because of his/her relationship with the established performer?
I guess I’m thinking of Julio & Enrique Iglesias, for example… I’m not sure Enrique got his record deal solely on the basis of his name.
Just wanted to get a clarification on whether you’re really looking for nepotism or just looking for family names that have spawned several acts.
–I am Soren Kierkegaard.–
“People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid.”
Did he sing? The guy was a dang hit machine. Of course he only got his recording contract because he was the son of Ozzie Nelson, and starred on the show “Ozzie and Harriet”.
Kierkegaard: As befits your name, you are taking this thread way too seriously.
Naw, psycat, family acts don’t count. It has to be one family member arriving on the scene, followed by another family member who probably wouldn’t have gotten a recording contract except for the fact that the first family member had “made it”.
Thus, the Jackson 5 --> Janet Jackson thing counts because Janet Jackson wasn’t part of the original Jackson 5, and probably got her solo contract only because of the family connection.
