Nero Wolfe...Spoiler question

In which novel or novella does the miscreant kill his dog at a kennel to create an alibi? BTW, Wolfe is angry not that the guy murdered his spouse, but that he killed an innocent, trusting companion to cover it up. Wolfe was always cool.

I don’t know, but I do like the cast selection… Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton work very well.

Mmmm… Timothy Hutton…

Robin

I find Chaykin far too thin and somewhat too polite in his portrayal of Wolfe. I also feel that Hutton’s Archie is a bit effete. He lacks a bit of the hard edge of the literary (I almost said “the real”) Archie.

I am going upstairs to check the backs of my collection. I will see if I can find your answer carnivousplant and post if no one else has beat me to it.

A friend owns a mystery bookstore and if I can’t find it I will call her.

TV

The book is In the Best of Families, in which Wolfe abandons his brownstone, necks with Lily Rowan, and gives master-criminal Arnold Zeck his come-uppance.

In The Best Of Familes? Zeck? Is that where they off him?

BTW, I vote for Sidney Greenstreet and Humphrey Bogart. No, they never played those characters, but thy should have.
Chaukin is OK, but isn’t Archie supposed to be good looking?

Timothy Hutton is cute, but the guy who portrays Saul Panzer gives me the sweaty thigh hots

No more calls folks. We have our Band-Name-O-The-Week Winner[sup]TM[/Sup]!

I’ve always thought of Sidney Greenstreet as Nero Wolfe but never Bogart as Archie. I don’t know why. I always sort of saw Archie as Dick Powell. You remember him as Phillip Marlow? But once you mentioned Bogart I said, “Yeah, that could be right. Why didn’t I think of that?”

It just follows if you think of Greenstreet, you should think of Bogart and Peter Laurie (Laurie as Fritz?).

By the way, why has the A&E television show totally eliminated Theodore as a character?

TV

Peter Lorie Fritz? Maybe…“I am a chef, not a magician!”
“Oh, Archie! What will he eat??!!”
Yeah, I like it.

Theodore…was there a mention of him when Wolfe actually left the house in search of an orchid guy? Maybe they can’t afford another actor. The bald guy who was the principal in Back To The Future would make a good Theodore.
