Guidance appreciated – thanx for taking the time to read this!
I’m using Cricket mobile dialup (plug-in modem) with IE 6 with SP2. About every 10 minutes the connection fails, and prior to the disconnect I start to get “page cannot be displayed” errors up the wazoo. Once I reconnect, I have to use the Back button to try the link again (using Refresh or Go, the bar at the bottom flashes left to right, but the page doesn’t load). I’m using AVG 8.5, the paid version, and Windows Firewall is off. Right now my laptop is making a high-pitched noise (the fan?) and all applications are very slow – there’s only one other running.
I suspect it has something to do with AVG, which I’m very disappointed with. It seems to slow everything down and using the Yahoo search , which AVG certifies the results of, sometimes screws everything up. Task manager shows 8 seemingly AVG-related processes going on including 2 instances of avgcsrxv.exe, one of which is using 80000 K. CPU usage is 60%.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction and I’ll try to take it from there – I don’t expect anyone to diagnose it for me. Is it most likely a modem problem, AVG problem, browser idiocy? (Yep, I’m getting away from IE asap), or operator error?
