Netflix DVD trial question

I’m asking for experiences here. Has anyone else who had Netflix Streaming signed up for the free trial of adding the DVD service? It appears that you can add any of the services under the free trial, including the most expensive 3-disk-at-once plan

So my idea was this. I would add that one to get the most bang for my (lack of) bucks and then, if I liked it, downgrade to one of the cheaper options. Does anyone have experience doing this? Does it work, or does Netflix do something to discourage this? For example, I could see them charging me for the “free” month before letting me switch. Or me incurring some sort of penalty for switching.

Just checking, since, otherwise, that seems like the best deal.

I’ve found the customer service phone support people to be very good at answering my questions. Try asking at 1-866-579-7115.

I’m not inclined to ask them if I can deliberately game their system. What would be their self-interest in telling me the truth? Lie and tell me it won’t work, so then they won’t lose as much on the deal.

This is why I asked for experiences. I could have sworn someone else on this board had talked about doing this a while back.

I mean, I’ll do that eventually anyways, (couching my terms to make it as less obvious as possible) but I think it’s more likely that answers from actual users will be more helpful. If they say yes, sure, it will be useful. But if they say no, well, I’m not inclined to believe them.

I took it for a free month, paid for another month, then cancelled. No problem. Of course I had the streaming option all along and that didn’t change. 30 disks for the price of a month at the 2-at-a-time rate.

I thought the plans went up to 8 at a time; did that change?

I have 2 at a time, plus streaming which I honestly seldom use. I found that it you bump a wait-listed DVD to the top, they will often send you an extra one to compensate.

If it hasn’t, 8 at a time isn’t available for free. Three at a time is the maximum for the free trial.

But, thanks guys. The more I think about it, the more I think it would be horribly stupid for them not to allow it, as long as I don’t do them right away. I sign up for the free trial, cancel, then sign up for the reduced version (probably the two a month deal.)

It’s not even really for me, but for my sister. She’s the one with a DVD player, and she’s been thinking of adding the DVD plan. I was just trying to make sure she got the most bang for her buck. (I spent all my money getting her a Roku for her birthday. Took a year and a half to save up.)
