I just downloaded the new Netflix app for the iPhone. I have an older model - a 3G. I logged in, a process which was a little slow and clunky, making me worry a little bit. It immediately went to my Instant Queue, and I started up Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog. The app is designed to work over both wifi and 3G (which amazes me that AT&T would agree to it). I don’t have wifi at work, so I’m skeptical…
Holy crap - it’s seamless. Usually streaming video takes a few minutes on pause to load up a large enough buffer, but this came sprinting out of the gate, and I haven’t had to pause at all to let it catch up. Video quality is excellent - better than MLB At-Bat’s live streaming.
Hey i don’t own an Iphone so don’t know how it works, but can you choose wether to use 3g or WiFi? I’m asking cuz I told my brother inlaw to try it out on his Iphone and I don’t want him going over his data plan. I told him to use the WiFi instead of the 3g ,but don’t know if he can choose or the phone automatically chooses one.
If you’re connected to wifi, your iphone will always route its data through the network, rather than 3G. Is his phone new? Only recent iphone contracts are subject to data caps.
If wi-fi is available, it’ll use that over 3G. You can also put the phone in “airplane mode” and turn on the wi-fi, and that’ll make it so it can’t use 3G.
Thank you for the recommendation. I just downloaded the app and added Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog to my instant watch queue. (I still haven’t seen that thing.)
I have to say that this is the best app that I have yet that makes my screen red with 2 white bars to enter text. I’m glad it was free, tho, as I don’t think I’d pay too much for this.
Now, if they offer an update that does stuff, like lets me watch movies and TV shows on my phone, that would be a cool app.
Srsly, all I get it Login Timed Out, Please try again.
And then THEY ERASE THE INFORMATION IN THE BOXES SO I HAVE TO ENTER IT ALL AGAIN WTF.
I hope someone posts again when this app is finally working and not just a broken login screen so I can try it out; it seems like an awesome idea.
It worked right out of the box for me, although I have had issues with getting a movie to load without stopping every now and then. This even happened at home on my wi-fi, so I think the problem has to be on their end, rather than with the network.
I love it. I installed it this morning once I found out it was finally released for the iPhone and tried it out both over wifi and 3g. Works really well. It stuttered a bit under 3g with 1 bar. But, once it got going it kept going. And, worked without any problems under wifi.
I had the same problem with the wrong password and getting a “timed out” message. Fixed the password and then got in with no problem.
