We live in the country and our only Internet access is through our phones. For four years I’ve been able to watch Netflix on my Samsung Note 2 with zero problems. Last night I changed batteries in my phone, restated and attempted to connect to Netflix via the app and it just goes to the Netflix splash screen with a moving red circle. It will not connect
I have no problem with websites or even YouTube.
Now the really strange thing is that if I acres Netflix via Chrome and try to play a movie from there I get he same slash screen and circle. What’s going on? A call to Netflix customer support was useless. I have restarted the phone and uninstalled and re-installed the Netflix app, but no help.
As I said, my phone is a Samsung Note 2 and my Android version is 4.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Could be a DNS problem with your provider. Something you could fiddle with if your problem was with a modem but I have no idea how you’d fix it with a mobile provider.
The app works on my wife’s phone, so it must be something specific to mine. Funny, it worked fine for years, now this. And I’m only a few episodes into Breaking Bad! This isn’t good.
Might be pointless, given that you’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, but have you tried clearing the cache on the app? You should be able to access that option via the settings (something along the lines of Settings > Apps > Netflix > Clear Cache ( you could clear data too while you’re at it, but be aware you’ll need your login details for Netflix next time you launch it).
Question though, I have unlimited data on my phone through t mobile. I watch Netflix all the time do in sure my data usage rays are through the roof. Would t mobile somehow block this app from my phone? Since I have unlimited data I don’t see why they would, but possible?
It should be pretty close to the steps I listed: Settings > Apps > Netflix > (scroll down a little) Clear Cache. I’m using an HTC so there can be differences in the interface, but I think there’s a good chance you’ll find the option to clear the Netflix app cache by following those instructions. If not, Google.
Update: I finally got the Netflix app to work again. I had to completely reset my phone to factory original. An incredible pain in the ass. Thankfully with Android most things are backed up, so all my vintages etc. Auto loaded when I signed in to Google. Dropbox had my photos. So not as bad as it could have been, but still a royal pain.
If anyone else had this problem I’m not sure if there is another fix. I goggled, asked here and called Netflix support. No help, so factory reset might be the only answer.
