Netflix on Wii. Am I doing it wrong?

I’m browsing through the Sci-fi section on Netflix. I see Star Trek, ST: Voyager, Lexx and so on. What I didn’t see was ST: DS9. I knew (Thanks to you guys) that we were supposed to get DS9 the first of this month. So I clicked on the search function, typed in DS9 and found it.

This frustrates the hell out of me. If I’m browsing the Sci-fi section (or any section), I want to know what ALL my options are. I don’t want to have to know the name of the movie I’m looking for. That sucks!

So, am I doing it wrong? Or are the people at Netflix that f’n stupid?

The Netflix interface on non-computer devices leaves much to be desired. It is sometimes best to add stuff to your “Instant Queue” on your computer where it is easier to browse and search.

Put yourself in Netflix’s shoes. How would you have designed a system where you could browse thousands (rising every day) of sci-fi movies and TV shows using the Wii’s extremely limited interface and resources (memory, disk space) without using search?

They’re probably doing as well as anybody could. I mean at least a PS3 or Xbox 360 is (virtually) guaranteed to have a decent-sized HD on the thing…

Also, Netflix is not the only one involved. I can watch Netflix on my Sony TV via its internal app or via the app on my Samsung Blueray. The interfaces are completely different, both in layout and functionality. In both cases they look more like the other video apps (hulu, crackle, etc.) on the same system than they do each other.

For the record, the Samsung is much better, but the Sony comes up much faster.

Huh? It’s entirely cloud based, just as the PS3 and 360 versions are. Do you actually think that Netflix is downloading entire library indexes to your machine?

When they first rolled it out they didn’t have the search feature at all. You could only browse their lists, which are seemingly random. Plus to watch movies you had to walk uphill both ways, etc.

As a side question about Netflix, why aren’t any Star Trek episodes (TNG, Voyager, DS9) available to Canadian subscribers?

It’s incredibly frustrating to read about other users having access to them and I still can’t watch my favorite series’…

Why Netflix why???

Well, it could be a dubbing problem. It looks like Shatner was the only actor on the show speaking Canadian.
