First, that Aslan is going to be a female lion? Second, that The Magician’s Nephew is being updated from the 1900’s to the 1950’s?
Anything else we should know about?

Maybe not
Rather off-topic but I can’t see “Narnia” without thinking of the “Narni-Narni-Narr-Narr” parody in Sequential Art. Two separate arcs, the most recent one starts around here.
Even aside from any philosophical considerations, a male lion’s mane just looks impressive. Distinctive, too: A lioness could easily be mistaken for any number of other large cats, but a big cat with a mane is definitely a lion.
My interest is mild on this one. I think Disney did a great job with the first two movies when they tried to launch this series as a mega-hit series. I think the third one, made by another company, is also pretty good.
Shame they didn’t make all 7 with the same returning casts that appear in each film. Most books feature someone from a previous book, but not all feature them much.
I love Silver Chair and The Horse and His Boy.
I’ve seen the Silver Chair BBC adaptation, which is decent for a TV show. I don’t think Horse has ever been adapted at all.
Awesome! Sekhmet is one of my favorite goddesses.
Has The Last Battle ever been filmed?
Nope. Nor has Magician’s Nephew.
We have:
Lion, Witch, Wardrobe - BBC and Disney
Prince Caspian - BBC and Disney
Dawn Treader - BBC and Disney
Silver Chair - BBC only
Horse and His Boy, Magician’s Nephew, and the Last Battle are all unfilmed.
I generally enjoy when things get changed up, but I’m used to thinking of Aslan as gendered in Turkish, so it will seem strange. But i could get used to it.
I thought the billionaire who founded the Foundation for a Better Life (Philip Anschutz) was behind those movie adaptations.
Maybe. And? They’re still pretty good.
If it’s good enough for the Silver Surfer…
I read that the BBC turned a few into radio dramas. But Horse and His Boy should be pretty easy to film.
It looks like that no, Aslan will not be female, that was just a rumor.
Yes, BBC did a fair Silver Chair, with a great Tom Baker as Puddleglum.
I suspect the fact that it’s being headed by Greta Gerwig means people are going to make assumptions. What is the most scandalous thing you can claim with her and her known feminist leanings? Claim she’s going to turn the Jesus Lion into a woman!!!
I’m going to guess they won’t indicate Susan didn’t make it to heaven because she developed interest in girly things like makeup.
It’s been a long time, but I swear that was part of the Last Battle.
Oh you bet, that’s exactly where it goes.
“My sister Susan,” answered Peter shortly and gravely, “is no longer a friend of Narnia.”
And then a bit later:
“Yes,” said Eustace, “and whenever you’ve tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says, ‘What wonderful memories you have! Fancy you still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.’”
“Oh, Susan!” said Jill. “She’s interested in nothing nowadays except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up.”
Textually this is about Susan choosing to turn away from God for the world (as CS Lewis did as a young man), but it’s also easy to read it as an old dude being sexist - not out of line with his era, but still unpleasant (which is how I read it). I could easily see Gerwig altering this to Susan taking a more general interest in the world, if she sticks to the religious message.
Yeah, I would guess people are predicting she’ll go with a more generic “universal force/spirit” type thing instead of the really clear Christian message in the books.
Then again, Aslan kind of has to die and be resurrected; it’s the plot of LWW.
Susan wasnt in the train accident that killed that others, remember that is what they got there- being dead on our world.
And yes, Susan turned away for awhile, but remember- “Once a King or Queen of Narnia- Always a King or Queen of Narnia.”
Remember though-in the end that particular Narnia is no more.
The thing with Susan is, all of those things that she wanted, petty as they were… She did get them all in Narnia. She was literally the most romantically-desired woman in the world.
