Neue Deuteche Welle artists from the 80's

I’ve recently started liking German pop from the 1980’s. Artists like Nena, Peter Schilling, etc.

I was wondering if anyone can supply me with more artist names and perhaps song titles of the more popular songs. I’m putting together a CD and am getting tired of the same old songs.

Eric

Sorry I mispelled deutsche in the title.

Hmm… there’s always “Da Da Da” by Trio.

Trio was already mentioned, but you should stick to their earlier stuff like the album “Bye Bye”.

Other (sometimes more obscure) choices are:
Extrabreit - biggest hit: “Hurra, Hurra die Schule brennt!”
D.Ö.F. - biggest hits: “Codo”; “Taxi”
Falco - “Rock Me Amadeus” is known even in the States, but his other stuff is also good.
Frl. Menke - hits: “Hohe Berge”; “Traumboy”
Ideal - hits: “Blaue Augen”; “Eiszeit”
Hubert Kah - hit: “Rosemarie”
Spliff - hits: “Carbonara”; “Deja Vu”
Also, not really NDW, but also a must have is Nina Hagen, especially her first two albums: “Nina Hagen Band” and “Unbehagen”. Songs like “Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen”, “TV Glotzer”, “Super Boy” and “African Reggae” are classics. “TV Glotzer” is a remake of “White Punks on Dope” and is a killer track!!! Other than Nina, my favourite band from that era is Spliff. Anything involving Herwig Miteregger is good. The guy is a genius, if you ask me.

I just remembered (and confirmed) that Spliff actually is the Nina Hagen Band. After Nina wanted to go on as a solo act, the Nina Hagen Band became Spliff, so I guess my liking them is no surprise. Also, make sure not to confuse Nina with Nena (of the 99 ballons fame). Nina is some kind of weird punk, new age, opera godess, and is seriously wacko, but in a good way. Her daughter Cosma Shiva Hagen is now an actress, and quite a babe as you can see here.

Than again, her mom isn’t exactly ugly either. Cite. She is also famous for demonstrating the correct way to masturbate, on an Austrian talk show (while wearing some really tight red lederhosen). That scene is interesting to say the least.
