Neutering older dogs

I have a 9 year old American Staffordshire Terrier who was neutered last Thursday.

I don’t know how to say this without being crude, so here goes…the dog had rather large testicles. He now is left with a HUGE empty sack.

Will the scrotum ever completely shrivel up so as not to be noticeable or will it be like this for the rest of his like due to his age when he was neutered?

I understand this probably won’t bother him in the long run, I was simply curious.

I’ve never owned a dog, but perhaps to help your dog’s ego, you can look into neuticles.

I’m not worried about his ego. He’s an awesome dog and full of life. I was simply caught off guard when I saw him. This was just a questions I figured if anyone knew the answer it would be you guys. I also didn’t want to google “neuter + scrotum + shrivel” on a work PC (and since I have serious doubts my google skills would actually return the info I was hunting).

It will take a bit of time, but there will be shrinkage. Take a pic today and another in a few months!

About 10 years ago, we rescued two adult dogs approximately 4 years old at the time, so full grown. One male and one female. Rules of the rescue organization required us to have both snipped and clipped. Male had a big ole ballsack left after the event, but after a few months it was gone. He’s laying on the floor here beside me as I type. Nothing there at all, like it was never there.

At the time it was done, he really didn’t seem to notice anything had happened, other than the incision bugged him for a few days.

Female on the other hand, had a few weeks/months of doggie depression. Apparently the change of hormones or whatever really messes with them.

It does shrink with humans. Don’t ask me how I know.

Yes, I had my dog neutered at age 11 or 12 because he had a tumor on one of his testicles. It shrunk to nothing in about six months, IIRC.

I’m waiting for my two year old pup’s sack to shrink now. He’s been fixed for a week.

It will shrink. I had my pit neutered at about that same age. For a few months he was “Mr. Flappysack”, but eventually the empty skin shrank down. He also lost his desire to hump everything with 4 legs.

 I called my pup “flappysack” and “sadsack” all the time. His took a few months to shrink noticeably, and quite a bit longer than that before it was totally gone.
