Neverland

Part one of this Peter Pan prequel aired tonighton SyFy. Spoilers to follow.

It got quite panned on io9 but I enjoyed it so far (part one). I thought it was on par with the various other SyFy adaptations (Tin Man, Alice, etc).

I like how Hook starts out as a Fagin sort of character teaching the Lost Boys how to steal, with Peter as a “Pannish” ringleader calling the shots with his flute.

Anna Friel and her crew are great. It’s funny to see Smee played by Hoskins again.

The Indians are great and realistically cast.

I like the explanation for why pirates and Indians are on the same island.

Tinkerbell looks a little odd tho, and I’m not sure how I feel about Neverland being a whole planet.

How are you liking it so far?

Well, production values are good, and I agree it is nice seeing Bob Hoskins as Smee again. I think some of the background pirates were also in Hook.

The actor playing Hook I much prefer to Dustin Hoffman, he plays it serious not campy. Hoffman never really scared me.

Not sure how I feel about a female pirate captain, I don’t think it ‘feels’ right.

The Boys are great, ambivalent about TigerLily but I like the Haida indian motif of the tribe. The raven costume is very pleasing.

I did not like the weird broken up ice terrain. Though I did like the spiral tree trunks, and the tree city.

What was with the funky warlock dude babbling about the whole gate thing, where the hell did that crap come from ?!

I didn’t catch the name of the boy who played Peter, but he is an adorable little sprog. I was thinking that Jimmy was Peter’s father for most of the time, but…why so attached if he hated his real father?

Does it pick up after the first half hour, or does it continue to be dull?
