New apartment!

I spent all day moving my stuff into my new apartment, and boy, am I sore! But I’m happy! This place is ten times better than the last one - bigger, higher ceilings, the layout is more open, it’s newly renovated only a month ago, and best of all…on the second floor.
After the [thread=370431]break-in[/thread] early last month, I decided to look for a place higher up, safe (or safer) from intruders and ANTS. In addition to being three levels, this complex is much smaller, with only 72 units, and the setup is one bug square, with the apts all facing inwards, so there’s 3 levels directly facing you and helping keep an eye out. Which reminds me that I need to buy some window shades!

Now I’m off to find a screwdriver that I know I put in that box…or maybe that one over there…or…this one?

Congrats  And I hope you find that screwdriver.

You should have hired my wife. We’re currently packing up for a move next week. We have excel spreadsheets corresponding to numbered, color coded boxes denoting what is in each and what room in the new place will be that box’s destination.

Scares me…

Congrats! Now you have the fun of figuring out where everything needs to go.

My daughter recently moved to a new place - hers is on the 3rd floor. I feel better knowing she’s pretty safe up there, but I didn’t much enjoy it when we took a sofa to her. Good luck finding the screwdriver!

O.O Could’ve used that sort of efficiency the last ten times I’ve moved. You’ll love it once you get there

**Fiveyearlurker ** - I started out pretty organized, with something similar to what your wife does. I listed the contents on the side of the box and put what room on the top. I did the large box=light stuff, small box=heavy stuff. I planned out what I would bring first and what could wait.

Then I started actually moving. All my planning went out the window, down the street and hopped a bus. Boxes were just thrown in one big pile in the corner because we were too busy to read the top (which had other boxes on it!). Extra people showed up so that threw me off and I had to rush-pack a bunch of stuff, which not only meant I didn’t know what was in what box, but how heavy it was or how important. Hence the missing screwdriver… which was found with a box of dryer sheets, a calendar, some candles, and a shoebox found under my bed.

**Fairychatmom ** - finding a spot for everything is the best part!

Soon it will be my turn. We are moving in early July, but at this point, we don’t yet have someplace to move TO. We will be heading to Montreal next week to hopefully find a place ASAP then get back here and pack. I have no idea how we are going to manage this. I mean, I’ve moved before, but this is the largest move I’ll have ever done myself (and same is true for my husband). 2 bedroom apartment, 700+KM…it’s gonna be a long move! Right now the apartment is such a mess anyways, it’s depressing! Packing will suck.

We only gave our notice this month, with the rent cheques. Yesterday, our super shows up unexpecedly (to us, anyways) with people to visit the place. I’m standing there in my pyjamas (and the worst pair I own, too!) and agree to let them in, because frankly, they’d already seen me at my worst! The place was a mess, we hadn’t done the dishes yet, we had laundry out and hanging to dry in the bedroom…it was awful. The super told us he left a message on our machine, but it looks like Bell dropped it or something. I believe the super, no reason to doubt him. So anyways, at least now I have a bit more motivation to start cleaning and purging things, since people might randomly show up to look at it all!

Congratulations and good luck finding everything!

Your wife is related to my Mom and SIL.

Mom’s helping me buy a flat in or near Barcelona, I think she’s having more fun than me - which was part of the idea, checking out for me the places we scoped last weekend will give her an excuse to escape Grandma for a while (Mom is at the Gramps’ because Grandma is in the process of having cataract surgery - she already complains that her already-done eye “sees too many wrinkles!”)

Mom loves planning even more than she loves Having a Plan.
