New autocorrect feature? Super annoying {Problem was Browser, not Discourse}

In the last week, I’ve noticed the site (and only this site) engaging in a lot more autocorrect. A recent example was in a thread about the “I Have a Dream” speech, where I typed “IHAD” and it autocorrected to “I HAD.” But it’s been happening a lot, and it’s not yet been correct with its autocorrect.

Can this feature be turned off, either in my own settings or globally (if it’s annoying other people)?

?
Doesn’t do it for me !

Huh! I tried typing the same thing in a Google Doc in the same browser, and the autocorrect didn’t replicate; but here it’s still happening.

In another post I just wrote:

and holy crap does that man know how to string a sentence together.

and it autocorrected to

and holy crap does that mean…

This is the sort of thing that keeps happening.

Hasn’t happened to me, either.

Oh, this is so weird. I tried on my phone, and it’s not autocorrecting like that. Maybe I have some browser extension that’s affecting this site but not Google Docs?

In any case, this is me, abashedly withdrawing my complaint. Sorry, y’all!

Maybe you just didn’t realize what the Right Hand of Dorkness was doing.

Yep, that is your browser. But I am late to the thread.

Kind of like my DVD player still showing subtitles even tho I double-checked to make sure I had turned them off.

Me, neither. If I don’t catch my own typos, they get posted.

It does sound like some sort of browser extensions. Try another browser on your computer. Do you still get the auto-corrects? If not, go back to Google and turn off extensions or browse in incognito mode (this turns off extensions, as well.) Do you still get the autocorrects? If not, you just have to hunt down the offending extension in your extension manager (chrome://extensions).

I’ve tested my home computer and my phone, and neither one does it, so definitely an error on my part, and an embarrassingly off-point complaint. My bad–and thanks to @What_Exit for the thread title clarification!

To paraphrase Le Guin:

For Cool is the Left Hand of Dorkness; and Dorky is the Right Hand of Cool.
