New Batman Game?

Anyone try out this new Batman Arkham Asylum that Steam has been advertising? They gave it a Metascore of 92 (if that means anything).

It is really good, I think. The “side” quests with the Riddler are easily half of the enjoyment and gameplay, and the stand alone challenges are very…challenging…and offer a great way to improve your skills if you happen to be stuck in the main game, or give you many hours of vendetta accomplishments to chase even after you’ve completed the main story on the most difficult setting.

I’m currently trying to beat the final boss on difficult after doing my first play-through on medium, not realizing that I missed 2/3s of the Riddler stuff the first time through.

Combat has been the most difficult aspect for me to master, but I think I’m finally getting the hand of it.

Atmosphere is great.

There’s a demo, Google for it and try it out for yourself.

I enjoyed it a lot. I did the entire Riddler challenge, and it was fun. (You’ll see.)

The fighting was really fun. One point: learn how to counter properly. It’s not difficult to do, and it will make fights a lot easier.

The game definitely gets a “Buy” rating from me.

And the copy protection is… hilarious. As ws the developers’ “tech support” when it came out.

The game has been eating my sleep lately – one of those games that keeps me up till five in the morning. I have a great affection for the animated series from the 90s – this probably explains a lot of my fascination for the game, but it’s also a wonderful action/adventure/stealth combination that refuses to let me escape it. One of those games that keeps me daydreaming.

After fighting with it for many days, I scored in the top 6200 in one of the extreme stealth challenges. I can’t remember my time offhand, but it was by far the most distilled sense of accomplishment in the game so far.

-Blow up 3 henchmen with three different weak walls.
-Use the zip line to shoot through a window and take down a henchman.
-Glide kick and then knock out one henchmen.

The only way I could come up with doing it with a quick time was in that order, and everything had to be just so with very little room for error. Must cussing and pounding on the couch ensued.

I played the demo and loved it. It’s the only game that’s ever made Batman feel like Batman – finally, he’s not just some street brawler with gadgets, he’s fucking BATMAN! Death From Above!

The various takedowns are just awesome. The stealth is awesome. I can’t wait to try the full game.

I have an incredible love for an inverted takedown. I decorated an entire room with dudes on gargoyles.

The Scarecrow levels are amazing. The endless hallway/alley. The morgue… oh Lord, the morgue. Eeugh. And now whenever I see leaves or dripping water my skin crawls. I’ve been finding them occasionally in vents and even though it’s in the Botanical Gardens – you know, where you’d expect to find a few dead leaves blown here and there and some leaking – it still makes me, the player, flash back to the Scarecrow scenes.

Great action, great stealth, cruel subtlety.

The greatest feat this game has is that it looks great even on my three-year-old computer.

The action is wonderful, smooth, skill based and hard - especially when they start throwing in men with knives who have to be stunned or men with stun-sticks who have to be bat-gunned to the crowd. The music is amazing, the story is brilliant, the actors are top-notch (though I’m somewhat disappointed with Batty himself) and the levels are brilliantly designed. It feels like Assassin’s Creed, but on a magnitude of 10 above.

I got it for the 360 - what’s the copy protection like on the PC?

Heresy. Conroy demands a blood sacrifice to atone. Do you have any pets, failing that, any children?

Ahem.

Anyways, the game is fucking awesome. I mean, really solid. Only complain I have is that story mode is a little bit short, but when the only real complaint with a game is “there’s not enough of it”, that’s not much of a complaint. I will say, though, that some of the battles on hard are in-fucking-sane. Trying to defeat one of the titan monsters and hordes of badguys after turning off the pumps had me at couch-punching stage last night.

Still, pretty awesome.

I love this game.

Part of the love - lots of the voice actors from the animated series return. And it’s just so good.

The combat is surprisingly solid. There’s a nice tempo to it. Strike - counter - cape stun - strike - takedown.

This is probably the best Batman game I’ve ever played.

Basically, there wasn’t really one, but they intentionally leaked broken copies of the game - in where the “glide” function was disabled, for instance. Meaning every time you leapt off a building or tried to bypass the gass-chamber in the start, the game dropped you into a painful, miserable and humiliating end. Pirates got a hold of these ones, installed it, played five minutes and decided it was legit and put them up all over the net.

The “tech support” was hilarious, with mods and members of the crew basically going "Oops, you just outed yourself as an absolute idiot, game pirater - and asshole, for having the balls to come to us for help after you pirated the game.

LOL, I didn’t know about this particular “copy protection”. I’m playing on the PC now - a legit version - I’ve had no problems.

Ha! That’s awesome!

That IS awesome.

That’s bloody brilliant.
