New Book about Men - It's blank

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20021226/ap_on_fe_st/blank_book&e=1

Yea, I know it’s supposed to be funny. Hahaha. Sheese. If I ‘wrote’ a blank book titled ‘Everything a woman can do with out a mans help’. I’d get thrown to the wolves.

If it weren’t for my cooking, my wife would be living on cheerios and ice cream.

I guess this is just a mini-rant. Sometimes you get tired of getting kicked in the nuts when you can’t fight back.

I am going to get bbq’d for saying this, but I’m right there with you, being a white, american, male it feels like I am the opressed one as I am not allowed to defend myself and if I try to promote my race I am a “racist” yet when it is done by “other” folks it is written off as “ethnic awareness” or some other crap.

And since I am always being told that white men own the world, I WANT MY CUT RIGHT NOW.

(unclviny donning flameproof suit… OK)

I think “humor” of that sort at the expense of either gender is tacky, personally. (I’m female, for what it’s worth.) Contrary to the statement in the OP, at least certain categories of women - think dumb blonde jokes, for example - do get ripped on to that extent.

I hadn’t heard about this “book” before but I would have given it the same treatment as a similar book about women - probably a snort of semi-disgust as I stuffed it back onto the store shelf.

It’s dumb and unoriginal and inaccurate.

Besides, the evolutionist in me is compelled to point out that there was no “before” time when men existed and women didn’t.

A woman’s view: I’ve felt like this for a long time. Men can no longer make disparaging remarks about women, but women are allowed to cut on men all they want? Nope, it doesn’t wash with me. Sexism is sexism, no matter which side of the coin you’re on. This kind of book isn’t funny, and it isn’t nice, and I hope the authors lose their shirts on it.

Bless you, tell your SO that he is lucky to have you.

I’m right there with the rest of you. I’m a woman and I think this is in extremely poor taste. I also hope the people responsible are ripped a new one for their efforts.

WELL DON’T YOU KNOW??? MEN, WHITE MEN TO BE PRECISE, HAVE BEEN SO EVIL AND SHITTY TO EVERYONE ELSE IT’S OUR TURN TO STRIKE BACK!!! THEY CAN TAKE IT IN THE CHIN AFTER ALL WHAT KIND OF MEN ARE THEY IF THEY CAN’T TAKE A RIBBING FROM A POOR WIDDOW WOMAN OR A GOOFY “URBAN” PERSON??? ZING!!!

And they wonder why I drink.

That’s not very nice. I see no humor in it. Then again, I didn’t see any humor in the dead cat books, but apparently some people thought it was funny. Go figure.

raisinbread: Keep on drinking. Maybe you’ll pass out and shut the fuck up.

raisinbread, meet FeistyMongol.

What, pray tell, “evil and shitty” things have I done that I deserve to be struck back?

OK, either Troy got whooshed or I did. I thought raisinbread was being sarcastic?

I think that was sarcasm, dear Troy.

I’m a woman, and I have to agree with everyone (I think everyone anyway) here.

Dumb idea, and NOT funny at all.

I too hate sexism, even if one thinks they are being “funny” or “just kidding” about it.

Oh well, guess I should’ve known this would go to the pit.

Didn’t really think it was worthy of a real rant. It’s just, so, stupid.

I agree. Tacky. Stupid. Ignorant.

One of my new favorite songs is “I am a man” by Alanis Morrisette (some people probably consider it very… ironic) Take a quick look for the lyrics if you’re interested - I believe they are copyrighted hence I will not post them here.

Sexism = bad. It doesn’t matter which side of the fence it comes from. The idea behind that book is stupid, offensive to both women and men (I am nobody’s nanny) and I hope they have to use the unsold books to substitute the toilet paper that they won’t be able to afford.

Well, what do you expect? You guys are talking about the 96 page abridgement. The full version is much better written and a lot funnier. I’ve got certain pages marked and reread them often, just for pleasure.
[sub]but seriously…are people expected to pay for this?[/sub]

I think the rule is no complete lyrics, but I’ll post a quick excerpt here:

“A Man” by Alanis Morissette

Good song.

Okay, now I’m confused. Too many contradictions from the oppressed white male camp. First I thought all the minorities were supposed to just grow thicker skins and stop whining about the zillions of offensive things they hear everyday coming from the nation’s majority. Then I hear OWM whining themselves when people make fun of them! So which is it? Universal calousness or universal sensitivity? Or is it yet again special treatment for whites?

I think the book’s concept is funny. I wouldn’t waste money buying it, but I’d laugh if my first knowledge of it was an unexpected encounter in a bookstore.

Un-oppressed white male here, in the camp of Universal Callousness, I guess.
