New Buffy movie without Joss.

I belong to a Buffy community elsewhere, and this news was posted there as well. I’m not sure how the SDMB will react, but I’m sure I’ll get sprayed with somebody’s blood before it’s over with.

You don’t have to be a huge Joss fan to think this movie’s a bad idea. This is part of what makes me think it’s a bad idea:

That’s not Buffy.

Death to all who are not Whedonites!! To the wall with dissenters from The Way Things Must Be! No deviation will be tolerated!

I don’t have high hopes for it, but it doesn’t impact my enjoyment of the series to have it exist. It’s not like they’re replacing something I enjoy: Buffy is already gone. If they were, say, canceling the Seasons 8 comic to do this instead, I’d be disappointed.

But that’s not the case, so big deal.

So it’s continuing the movie as if the TV series never happened, right?

Does that mean Paul Reubens will come back and finally die?

The big deal for me is that if Fran’s movie gets made, then it’ll push back production of a Whedon-helmed movie for some years. Her desire to cash in on a new film after she crippled the last one doesn’t inspire confidence.

Also, outside the linked article, I’ve never heard of her involvement with the series other than attaching her name to grab some free money. I’d be curious to see where the author got that info.

Pleased to meetcha.

Actually, I don’t actively hate the series. I simply refuse to accept the possibility of a Buffy who’s not a high school cheerleader played by Kristy Swanson. So I don’t acknowledge that there is such a series.

There’s no way this will end well.

I was wondering how this can be worse and it hit me. Miley Cyrus as Buffy

There are thousands of movies each year that I don’t care about. Why should I care about this one?

There is no Buffy. Only Kazuuuul.

The original movie is a lot of fun in an early-90’s way. There are some really good lines and fun scenes. It’s as little like the TV series that followed it as it possibly could be, so I’m not surprised that fans of the latter don’t much go in for it, but it’s not bad

Came across this on a firefly site this morning. Joss has spoken, but very tersely:

(Yeah, that’s his entire statement so far.)
