This is indeed mundane and pointless, and will likely get zero replies, but I am totally excited. I just ordered a new camera lens for my camera - the Tokina 11-16mm ultra-wide. I have a Nikon D70s right now and I can’t wait for this to come in. It’s gotten great reviews and I can’t think of anything else.
I’m hoping to upgrade to a D300 (or maybe a D300s) this summer, and I can’t imagine what that will be like…
I’ve got the hots for Canon’s 100mm macro lens, but I haven’t convinced myself to spend $400 on a new toy. It would be fun to crawl around on my hands an knees taking “bugs eye view” pictures.
Would that be the Sigma 105mm macro?, I’ve bought it recently, it’s a nice lens but I didn’t know it doesn’t come with image stabilization. I haven’t had much time to use it, but so far [I like](
This, right? I’m jealous. I’ve heard great things about Tokina’s ultra wide angle lenses. My current set up only gives me as wide as 18mm on a crop and often I wish I had a little more.
Tully Mars, it’s a constant 2.8 throughout the range, so it’s pretty fast. It’s the one in Algorithm’s post.
Regarding the macro lenses, I also have Nikon’s 105mm macro lens, and it is a really beautiful lens. I’ve found, though, that macro photography with a true macro lens is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Using lenses like those with open apertures makes it very hard to focus, at least for me, considering the plane that is in focus is so thin. I’ve gotten decent at the flower photos, but still have not figured out how to get great bug shots, especially when the little critters are so impatient. It’s such a great lens, but I know that I’m not using it to its full potential. Definitely something I have to work on this summer, and get used to smaller apertures to get better focus…
Algorithm, that’s the one! Currently my widest lens is the kit lens that came with the camera, 18-70mm f3.5-4.5. It’s a surprisingly nice lens considering it’s a kit lens, but I really wanted something wider and heard great things about the Tokina. I’m going to Italy this fall and think a nice wide-angle will really come in handy there.
It’s supposed to come in on Monday at the very latest - hopefully sooner!
Yes, it’s the Sigma. Image stabilisation would be nice, but when you are taking macros of flowers the big problem is getting the right part of the flower into the shallow depth of field.
