New Cat

Mrs. Guest and Guestling went to the Humane Society today and adopted a cat. Said feline is currently called Blake by the workers at the Humane Society, not sure that name will stick, just doesn’t seem like a cat’s name…

Pics to follow on pick up from the cat’s snip and chip procedure tomorrow.

that is all.

Good for you! Bonus karma points for adopting a rescue! I hope you’ll be happy with [del]the little demon[/del] your new overload!

Congratulations to all of you! Don’t forget the mandatory pics tomorrow.

You know the rule. This thread is worthless without pictures…

Congrats on the new baby!

It blows my mind sometimes what names people come up with for animals. Our rescue kitty was surrendered to the rescue group by her owner who sadly got diagnosed with MS. I wish her well and the longest life possible with as little pain as possible. But I can’t figure out what drew her to name the cat “Miss Marple”. Yeah, I know it’s an Agatha Christie reference. But come on. It doesn’t suit her personality at all. We renamed her more appropriately: Sweetie Pie. She is a fuzzy little ball of absolute sugar. We can even rub her tummy and she likes it.

We had a foster greyhound last summer, too, that got renamed. His kennel name was Jeffrey, which we shortened to Jeffy. Even though it’s a human name, it suited him. His new owner renamed him to… Barry. WTF?

The only time I’ve kept a pet’s former name after adoption was my orange tabby cat, Freckles. It suited her too well.

Our local humane society likes to give animals temporary names in groupings. One time they had a bunch of kittens who were all named after Harry Potter characters, i.e. Dumbledore, Hermione, Weasley, Hagrid, Hufflepuff, Bellatrix, Luna, etc. I thought that was pretty cute.

My local pound has a litter of kittens right now who are named after historical dictators/baddies. There’s Stalin, Pol Pot, Pinochet, Rasputin,Bathory andFidelina.

Where’s Chairman Meow?

The only rescue animal whose name I’ve kept is my little black kitten with orange eyes named Boo! She was born around Halloween and looks perfectly at home posing with pumpkins. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay and Congratulations to the whole guest family! Thank you for adopting a rescue. I can’t wait to see pictures.

I have changed the name of all but one animal I’ve adopted. The one I didn’t change was one dog that was in the program I run at my local municipal shelter. I had been calling him by his shelter name for the 4 weeks or so that he was in my program. I was used to calling him by that name and it suited him.

Oh, my gosh. Stalin and Fidelina are adorable, but Pol Pot just melts me away.
(Those are some weird names for cute little babies like these.)

Yes, I think Pol Pot is gorgeous. I hope he gets a home. The county pound is pretty high kill.

StG and SaharaTea, I actually like those, kinda my style.

Well here is the newest guest hope that works, totally new at uploading pics to a sharing site and linking, so I guess holler if I failed and I’ll get it fixed. This is the only pic I have as yet since he’s still rather skittish and I don’t want to overwhelm the poor boy too much.

Ok so a bit about him. Obviously he is a rescue from the Humane Society. He came in as part of a litter of three,(still a kitten) which is all the good people at the Society knew about his origins. He is all grey with white gloves and boots, a white collar and shirt which comes up to a half-mask on the right underside of his face and chin. Personality-wise, he is at this point pretty much a “calm and quiet is best” type of cat. Yesterday, during the choosing process, he was sitting in Mrs. Guest’s lap and when Guestling slowly and cautiously reached over to pet him (Guestling has never seen a cat up close, only dogs, who were all as big as but usually bigger, than him) he walked right over and curled up in his lap and purred to sleep. Guestling is usually calm and quiet when its him and Mrs. Guest in public. Tonight, the cat was hiding from everyone until it got to my turn to meet him. Being a veteran cat owner, I didn’t try to make him play or anything like that, just sat with him in my lap stroking him. (I GOT BELLY:D:D:D:D) nuzzles were eventually exchanged, food fed and water drank etc. Anyway, I digress and boast (belly! yay! and I’m the only one).

We have not settled on a name, Guestling wants to name him Blank Night Awesome (I kinda like this one:D)

I’ve suggested Erik, Gaston, Leroux and Mortimer Vivant. SIGH the wife, she has no sense of humor for these things, shot them all down. I could probably convince her of Mortimer Vivant though…maybe.

I’m open to suggestions, but please, no smoke, smokie, ghost, phantom or the like, I know its hard to suggest a name based on very limited personality info and good names based on physical characteristics are rare as hen’s teeth, but Mrs. Guest is being jerkish and not suggesting any herself, merely shooting down mine and Guestling’s suggestions. I think she actually likes Blake:confused::rolleyes::dubious:. Me, I like names that are unique, fun, obscure and or historical is good too. If it were a female cat I would be thinking, nay, insisting stridently for something like Boudicca (if I thought she was going to be a bad-ass home defender/enactor of vengeance).

But very appropriate for feline overlords.

ok, here are a few morepics of our newest family member. Sorry about the poor quality. I’m starting to lean towards calling him Nuzzle

See, I’ve always thought pets should have human names, because at least they are names. I have a friend with cats named Buttons and Pickles; those aren’t names, they’re collections of objects.

Aw, little Stalin is adorable.

Said no one ever, until now.

well, there’s always www.catsthatlooklikeHitler.com

He looks like a Cedric. Congrats!

Huh, hadn’t thought of Cedric, that would have been a good name, but, per the Royal Announcement as dictated to Lady Mrs. Guest and I by His Lordship Himself, His name is Nuzzles. We didn’t really have any choice in his name like we deluded ourselves into thinking we going to.
