Congratulations, Gaudere! Does this mean you’re a divinity now, like David?
Shayna - I don’t know firsthand of Gaudere’s powers. However, I’ve had certain experiences that I personally interpret as online communication with a person calling herself Gaudere. I could be imagining the whole thing, of course, but these communications seem to have a life of their own. Also, many other believers have testified that they, too, have had online discussions with this Gaudere entity.
Moreover, there are those who claim to have seen her in the flesh. What’s more, they have testified that she swilled Guinness in their presence, demonstrating that she wasn’t an apparition.
Personally, I am what you might call a “blood believer” in Gaudere. Ever since childhood, I’ve somehow just known that she exists. I did peek at her profile out of curiosity, but even if I had never seen a single one of her posts, I would have faith.
When I showed up around here last July, all the mods seemed to be distant, cloud-wreathed figures with terrifying powers, granite profiles, and mighty flaming swords.
Now Gaudere and manhattan, two folks I’ve actually MET, are moderators…
Which means that my next Fiendish Criminal Plan will be to construct a paradoxical thread so cunningly Questionable and so marvelously Debatable that the two of them will be forever hurling it back and forth into each other’s Forum!
[note to the curious: Gaudere is ever so much cuter than manhattan, but manhattan could probably drink Gaudere under the table.]
I do most of my posting in MPSIMS, but I read GD quite a bit. You are impressive, and very worthy of the position of Board…no, not Goddess. Board Empress? Tzarina? Iron-Fisted Ruler?

I could choose to do so, but I do not, becuase I wish my followers to come to me through faith, not be forced to believe. I’m afraid that this means that those who have actually met me in person, like Ike and UncleBeer and Chris, are now darned to heck because they believe in me through objective evidence and not faith. Oh well. Them’s the breaks.
Firefly, meara, Ike - I say BUNK to you and your unproveable theories and claims. Many have claimed to see plastic statues cry real tears, too. Are we to believe they really saw such a thing happen, or was it just a figment of their overactive imaginations?

Gaudere does not deserve this position. Gaudere has done nothing to merit the status of moderator.
Gaudere has been unfailinglu intelligent, charming, sensible, sensitive, insightful and even kind to her fellow posters. What twisted mockery of the judicial process has led to her being sentenced to moderator status? Even as a private poster she has been forced to deal with the pathetic ravings of delusional Phaedrii. How much more abuse will be directed her way now simply because Herr Zotti has branded her with the scarlet <font color=red>M</font>? Will there be no end to the madness? Can’t we all just get along? And what happened to my beer, anyway? I swear it was full a second ago.
Ah, forget it. Condolenc-- I mean, congratulations, Gaudere. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer Guiness-swilling elf.

I want to believe in Gaudere. I mean, who doesn’t? It would be nice to believe that there is a compassionate moderator, but what does our actual experience tell us?
There just isn’t any way to know for sure whether Straight Dope has made up the whole Gaudere persona. Look at the striking resemblance she has to another goddess. I mean, can you say “Athena”? Athena comes out of the mouth of Zeus, just as Gaudere comes out of the mouth of David.
I know that many of you say that you have met her and have a personal relationship with her. While I really do believe that you honestly, genuinely, and from the bottoms of your hearts think you met her, I don’t believe you’re taking into consideration all the many other simpler, more likely explanations.
I’m not saying that there cannot be a Gaudere, but merely that the message board doesn’t need one to exist. And just because I think it might feel nice to believe in a Gaudere, I just can’t let my feelings take over my rational brain.
And has my rational brain ever failed me? Okay, never mind that one. But think about the other stuff I said.
